When you work in the world of IT, it's not uncommon to leave one job in order to get a more prominent, higher paying job when one becomes available. The goal should always be to land the better IT contract jobs the first time around, however. This means that you need to know where to look and ask for help when you need it. One thing to understand is that some of the best IT employers don't advertise where you can see them. Instead, they are using recruiters - and those recruiters are the ones that do the advertising for open IT contract jobs. This allows you to stay on the move with all of the best contract positions and let someone else do the work for you. There are three steps to follow to ensure you are able to land the better IT contract jobs. Step 1: Polish Up Your Resume Your resume has to look great, otherwise companies are going to pass right over you. What can you offer that others cannot? Make sure you are showcasing yourself in the best possible light. Any certifications and recent training that you have, be sure to place it on your resume. Also list any accomplishments. If you have designed an app, created a website or done anything else, be sure it's on the resume. Step 2: Call Up a Recruiter When you are ready to start looking for IT contract jobs, call up a recruiter in your area. Be sure you find one that specializes in IT positions, otherwise they are not going to be able to access the same level jobs. Identify what positions you want, how much you are looking to be paid and how quickly you want to go to work. Since these are contract jobs, you also need to specify how long (or short) you want your contract length to be – there are pros and cons for each. Step 3: Be Ready One of the biggest mistakes that people make is not being ready when a recruiter has found positions. You need to be ready to start when you say you are ready to start. The companies that are in need of IT contract jobs need them filled immediately because they need you for a specific project. If you aren't ready to start when they need you, they are going to find someone else. As long as you learn to have your resume ready to go and reach out for help to a recruiter, you can always have your next IT contract job lined up before your current one expires. This way, you will never experience any gaps in employment. Whether you like working contract jobs because of being able to work for different companies or because you want to keep your options open, there are plenty all over the country. Simply determine where you want to work and in what capacities and let the recruiters come up with the IT contract jobs for you.
