Some people question why they need to go through the effort to become a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP). The process to become a certified photographer is not easy. It's a three-step process that consists of declaring your candidacy, completing a one hundred multiple-choice question exam, then passing an image submission review with the PPCC. It takes time and technical know-how to become a certified photographer. It may well be a difficult journey, however there are solid rewards that will help you and your small business in the long run. #1 Bring In More Money Recently I met with a photographer and I asked her the reason why she became a CPP. She said, “I want to develop the self-confidence to charge more for my work.” Awesome! And you should charge more! You will find only 1,725 Certified Professional Photographers in the states. You can tell customers that you are a certified photographer and stay confident about your rates. You worked very hard for the qualification and you really know your stuff. #2 - Save Some Money The 2nd advantage is that you are able to select much better camera equipment and save money in the process. I have found that I can now examine a technical camera or flash review without trouble. Before I'd stumble over words like “photosites” or “guide numbers”. Now, I can make better selections about my products because I know the terms for the industry products. You will save money too. Once you learn exactly what you'll need in your camera or flash then you'll not purchase the “best” equipment simply because you think it will make wonderful photos for you. You can buy exactly what you need since you are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the equipment due to your new specialized knowledge. #3 - Knowledge is Power The 3rd advantage of becoming a certified photographer is that you simply will have more specialized knowledge about photography. The quantity of information and facts covered in the cpp test and the specifications needed to pass the photo submission evaluation will open up your eyes to understanding more technical facets of your camera and equipment. These additional skills can be used with your customers and improve your ability to handle common problems with photo sessions. Clients sometimes cannot point out exactly why one photo is preferable to another photo. They simply know it is better compared to a technically inadequate picture. #4 - Builds Self-Confidence The fourth advantage is the “superhero” self-confidence you will get in being familiar with your art (which ties directly into advantage #1). I used to have gaps in my understanding of photography. I knew enough to have a good photo session with automatic controls but now I'm able to break the principles because I know the principles. I have found that my pictures have better color correction, much better lighting and in general greater image quality because I actually know my camera far better and I am confident that I'm able to make amazing pictures. Confidence goes quite a distance for a photographer. #5 - A Fancy New Label The fifth advantage of acquiring your certified professional photographer certification is that you get to place the title “CPP” after your own name. Some individuals are rolling their eyes at the moment but “nearly 71 % of certified professionals state that qualifications give them more prestige among their co-workers. Salary Survey: Monitoring Your Net Worth, CertMag, 2005. #6 - Pay It Forward The sixth benefit would be that you now have the opportunity to give back to the photography network. Maybe you love the inverse square law, the zone system or speaking about color temperature. Perform a web seminar, compose a post on your website, coach a brand-new photographer, teach a class at your local photography group or local community college. Give back in your community and help other people in the beginning stages in their photography profession. To summarize, these are simply six advantages to becoming a certified photographer. I wish you the greatest of luck in becoming a certified photographer!
