ComForcare Home Care franchise team brings reliable professional home care services to the greater Portland area. ComForcare franchise owner Christian Watts opened his home care franchise in March of 2012 as a result of experiencing a need for home care services himself. Watts helped care for his aging grandparents while he was in his early twenties. His grandparents wished to be surrounded by familiar people and places and opted to stay on the family farm as they aged. “My grandparents passed away, at ages 98 and 95,” Watts noted. “They made it all way through in their home. The flavor of that was in my blood.” The experience greatly affected Watt’s choice to begin his own home care franchise. “I wanted to make a living and feel good about the next stage of my life,” he said. Helping Clients Stay at Home ComForcare Home Care provides professional home care services for seniors and those living with the challenges of a chronic condition or illness, or recovering from surgery. Home care services are available any time of day, weekday or weekend, and can be scheduled on a part-time or full-time basis as needed. The home care agency provides an affordable alternative to a live-in senior care facility. “They can stay at home,” Watts said. “We see new clients well up in tears knowing they don’t have to be sent off to a home.” When he founded his home care franchise, Watts chose to form a business partnership with longtime friend Marissa Phillips, who handles all client intakes as ComForcare’s director of operations. “Marissa was having a tough time as a widowed single mother,” Watts said. “We looked at the resources to buy a franchise for something to feel good about. This gives Marissa an opportunity to run a business where seniors win and she wins.” Phillips works with clients’ health care providers as well as trains and coordinates ComForcare’s part-time, on-call caregivers, who bring a range of skills to their role. “One lady has us come in every Sunday morning. She likes to have her hair done,” Phillips said. “We really do surround people and support them in whatever their needs are.” Going Above and Beyond with Customer Service Phillips and Watts follow up with each of their clients to ensure services are being provided according to the clients’ specific requests and needs. “We spend time talking about how important it is to meet the needs of a client – going above and beyond with each one,” Phillips said. “One thing is, when you have down time with the client, to take time to notice the counter needs to be wiped down, or the china is dusty. Christian and I really encourage a lot of communication between us and our caregivers.” The Portland-area home care franchise has continued to grow and expand in the last year. Next month marks the franchise’s one year anniversary.
