Home care agency in Buffalo Groves helped one man manage the challenges of losing a beloved spouse and moving to a new home. Buffalo Groves, IL March 2013 - ComForcare Home Care in Buffalo Grove helped make a difficult transition easier for one client and his family by providing home care and companionship services for an elderly gentleman following the death of his second wife and a recent relocation to Northern Illinois. The family contacted ComForcare after the man’s wife passed away two months after the couple had relocated back to Illinois from Florida. The 80-year old man was currently living in an Independent Living Community but was still very unfamiliar with the surrounding area and was afflicted with several chronic diseases including diabetes and arthritis. His family lived nearby and was very supportive, but his two children were both challenged with balancing their own jobs, family, and other responsibilities. In the beginning, home care providers spent long hours providing companionship and support as he grieved the loss of his second wife and the beautiful and familiar surroundings of his old home in Florida. “We would encourage him to talk about his interests. He was introduced to other clients who would sit together at meals and help him make new friends. “We recognize that this recent transition from Florida to Illinois was difficult, and then it became compounded with the loss of his wife,” shares Svenningsen. “Our goal was to provide him with companionship and support as he grieved and to help him become more comfortable, happy, and independent again.” As time passed, ComForcare provided ongoing feedback to the man’s family about how he was adjusting. His home care caregiver would even call the family to let them know if he was feeling more lonely and the family would make visiting with the grandchildren a higher priority. Since the man had been away from Illinois for over twenty years, he was still unfamiliar with the area. Over time, he required increasingly less assistance as he regained a higher level of confidence and independence.
