MUNCIE, Indiana, May 22. KRISTY Castillo, an assistant women's swimcoach at Akron since 2003, has been named the new head women'sswimming and diving coach at Ball State, according to Ball Stateathletics director Bill Scholl. "We are excited to have Coach Castillo on board," Scholl says. "Sheis an energetic coach with quality experience. Her experience andpersonality are a good fit for us at Ball State. We look forward toher beginning work at Ball State." Castillo replaces Laura Seibold-Caudill, who retired as the BallState women's swimming and diving coach after the 2011-12 season -her 33rd year at the helm of the Cardinals. "I have a passion for coaching and being surrounded by thestudent-athlete experience," Castillo says. "I approach every dayand every situation with an open mind and never underestimate theability of the student-athlete. I look forward to developingquality student-athletes at Ball State. I feel fortunate to be thehead coach for such an established program with a strong traditionof excellence in the classroom and in the pool. It is an honor tobe named the head coach at Ball State and I would like the thankthe athletics department for this opportunity." In addition to her coaching at Akron, Castillo also served as anassistant lecturer at Akron from 2008-12. She also served as acoach and camp counselor at the Stanford Swim Camp in the summersof 2006 through 2009. A 2003 graduate of Akron, Castillo began her coaching career as thehead swim coach at Rosemont Country Club in Fairlawn, Ohio, in thesummers of 2003 and 2004. She earned her master's degree from Akronin 2006. As a student-athlete for the Zips, the North Canton, Ohio, native,served as team captain for Akron in 2001 and 2002 and was afour-year letterwinner. She set school records in the 100breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and as a member offour relay teams in her career. She still owns some of the school'stop times in several events.
