Search home stores and websites for discontinued or slightly scratched or dented models. Stores are always looking to get rid of old stock so that they can add new inventory to their showrooms. Often you can find a really good deal on a showroom model that may have a small dent or hardly noticeable scratch on it. Fifthly, take out your old porcelain sink and put in a stainless steel one. Sinks are relatively cheap and give your kitchen an instant face lift. Replace the faucets in the kitchen and bathrooms, and your sink will take on a whole new look. You can also reglaze your bathtub to cover over resistant stains and nicks in the porcelain. Sixthly, lighting and window blinds are another way to update a room. Take out the old light fixtures and put in new pendants or overhead lights. Take down the old vertical or mini blinds and update them with 2-inch faux wood blinds or roll-up shades.
