A lot of people must have heard about soy wax candles, which are surpassing the usage and popularity of paraffin wax candles. So, what exactly is it? It is basically a vegetable wax which is derived from the oils of soybeans. The process of manufacturing of the wax involves cleaning, cracking and de-hulling of soy beans which are then rolled into flakes. Oil is then extracted from these flakes and hydrogenated, which in turn converts the fatty oils present in the oil to saturated form. This entire process leads to a dramatic alteration of its melting point, thus transforming it into a solid at room temperature. The leftovers are used as animal feed. Soy wax is very much a recent invention and came into the scene just a couple of decades ago, in the year 1991. Michael Richards is the originator of this form of natural wax. The commercialization of the wax started in the year 1995 when Body Shop, a national chain of stores in the USA, began offering soy wax candles to general public. Wax candles earlier used expensive beeswax as a major ingredient. However, Michael was able to successfully replace it with soybean based wax. Candle makers the wax in a number of ways, which includes using it directly, blending it with other natural oils or combining it with paraffin. The wax has a few benefits associated with it. First of all, it is a non toxic clean burning form of wax, unlike paraffin which produces harmful carcinogenic toxins. Secondly, the wax burns slower, cooler and hence longer than others. Since it is derived from soybeans, it is naturally biodegradable. Also, it is easily removable than paraffin wax. One of the other major advantages of this natural form of wax is that it is completely renewable. While paraffin prices are constantly increasing due to a shrink in global reserves of oil, the production of soy wax is on the rise as it solely depends on the production of soybeans. The aforementioned benefits have contributed to the rise in its popularity. Therefore, the wax is now being produced in a large scale and supplied to the market to cater to the growing demand of this biodegradable form of wax. Quite a few wholesale soy wax distributors supply it to the candle makers around the world. Be it a home based or a large scale business, these wholesale distributors provide need-based options to fulfill the need of candle makers across the globe.
