It has often been said that working from home is by far the nicest and most comfortable way to earn a living. I would not necessarily disagree with that, but I would certainly add a few provisos. Firstly, it isn't "easy" as many people think. In many ways it is much easier to go to work in a 'job' to earn your living. You have a set pattern, a time frame to work in, and outside of those hours you can totally forget about work altogether. This is not possible with a home based business. Working from home is a seriously time consuming and stressful thing to do, never mind to start from scratch. Secondly, working from home is something which you can get looked down on for. I have worked from home for many years now, and it just so happens that I prefer to work late into the night as that's when my creative mind works best. The house is quiet, the streets outside are quiet, barking dogs have been taken indoors and generally I find it a great time to work. But that means I am often not in bed until 4 or 5 am. Therefore I am obviously not sat back down to work at 9am (not usually anyway, it does happen though!). But when the postman comes, or visitors come to my house, and they see that I don't get up until 10 or 11 am, they often snigger or see me as lazy. If only they knew that I work twice as hard as they ever have and probably ever will!! On the plus side though, it is MY CHOICE to work these hours, and that choice is something that can only be obtained from working at home on your own business. I snigger back at those who look down on me, and just check my watch saying something like "Isn't your boss waiting for you get back to the desk?" !!!! Starting up in a home business is really hard, and demoralizing too at times. You need, you MUST find the golden holy grail. "Whats the holy grail?" I hear you ask! Well the holy grail is earning your VERY FIRST DOLLAR! It is the single biggest achievement you will ever make. Forget every single other dollar you might ever earn, just go and earn that FIRST one, and you are on your way to success in this very difficult and failure-ridden environment. Because once you can earn ONE, you can replicate and duplicate what you did, and then leverage it into many more dollars for the same time spent or effort expended. For me, that first dollar came from paid online surveys. I wanted to find a way to earn that first holy grail dollar as quickly as possible, and it only took a few weeks, which was a great feeling. It is so important to prove to your own mind and insecurities, that you CAN earn SOME money without going to work in a "job". So how did I start? Well I first sat down, it was a weekend, and tried to think of how to earn the quickest easiest buck possible. I ran through ideas and scams (which are everywhere when you are looking for a quick buck, it goes without saying!). Eventually I stumbled across the idea of taking surveys for money. I began looking into the many paid surveys out there, and the many companies and websites offering information and advice on the subject. After around an hour, I had shortlisted enough companies to start getting involved. For the next week I did nothing but sign up to paid survey sites and other online surveys for money where you can earn points, prizes, products and merchandise, and of course most importantly, hard cash!!! Kaching!!! But no, the til didn't start ringing, not at first anyway, and you have to have some patience in this game I can tell you. There is a small lead time, a delay where you are working hard but nothing is coming back. Some survey companies these days realise this and are a bit better at getting cash to you sooner, to keep you motivated, after all they want your opinion as much as you want their cash! Within a couple of months I was earning from the surveys. I forget the exact numbers, but one thing I do not forget is the very FIRST number!! That golden dollar, the first I ever made from working at home! Yes maybe it did come from just sitting down to some paid online surveys, but does that matter? Of course not, I EARNED IT!! And I did it while I was in the comfort of my own home, with my choice of music on the player, with my brand of coffee in the cup next to me, and best of all, with my cats laying on my lap! Do I still do surveys? Well yes from time to time, but no they are not my main source of income, not by a long stretch of the imagination, but they were a very very important step in the right direction, and only though taking one step will you ever accomplish anything. I chose to take surveys for money as my first step, and then I used the modest but useful income from that to keep me afloat while I discovered other ways to do things to earn yet more money. In fact one of my first ideas was to use my kids, that's what I call leverage!! I told them if they did a survey for me every evening Monday thru Friday, then at the weekend I would take them out somewhere nice! It worked, and before long they loved doing the surveys, it was paying my bills and keeping me at home while I concentrated on bigger and better ideas! Try it, working from home whether with paid surveys or anything else is a very empowering experience and one not to be missed.
