The hip bone, also known as the coxal bone, is an irregularly shaped bone which serves as the weight-bearing center of our body. We are able to bend at the hips and perform other activities concerning the hip thanks to this bone. The joint responsible for the range of movements we are privileged to do is the ball and socket joint called acetabulofemoral joint. The head of the femur serves as the ball while the acetabulum, a part of the pelvic girdle of the hip bone, serves as the socket. The hip joint helps keep our body's composure while allowing us to do activities ranging from the mundane ones such as walking and sitting, to extreme ones such as acrobatics and yoga. This being said, when we use this joint extraneously everyday, it is exposed to an increased susceptibility to experiencing hip joint trauma and pain wherein if left untreated, could lead to grave complications which may lead to a hip replacement procedure. In fact, just recently, researchers discovered another genetic link to osteoarthritis. How will the connection between one’s genes and osteoarthritis affect one’s hip replacement? Maintaining the balance of our body is one of the important functions of the hip bone. But aging impairs this function since we become slower, weaker and susceptible to injury and falls. Degenerating disorders of the bone such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosisand traumatic arthritis makes the hip bone weak and easily injured especially in aging individuals. Other bone disorders which could put the hip joint at risk for injuries are inflammation of the trochanter's bursa (Trochanteric bursatis), iliotibial band tendonitis(inflammation of the IT band tendon), osteonecrosis (or bone death), hip fracture due to osteoporosis's tendency to cause porous and brittle bones in aging individuals, and stress fracture. When there is injury, pain usually follows and pain interventions are needed to abate the pain sensation and/or treat the injury. There are various treatments used to treat hip pain. Minor hip joint injuries are easily treated with common hip pain interventions. If the injury worsens, though, alternative hip pain treatments are available to treat serious conditions. Unusual symptoms such as difficulty in walking due to hip pain, obvious deformity around the hip joint due to trauma, pain which occurs at night, prolonged pain of the hips not alleviated by traditional treatments, inability to bend the hips, serious infection of the affected part which includes swelling, redness, warmth and fever, and other atypical symptoms observed may prompt the need to consult a healthcare professional such as a doctor. A total hip replacement may be needed to permanently deal with serious cases of hip injuries. Before forgoing this treatment, however, one must learn more about the procedure, the steps implemented and the materials used since there were reports regarding defective hip prostheses such as some DePuy hip devices which was the cause of some people filing for a Pinnacle lawsuit. Over a few people have authorized a DePuy Pinnacle Lawsuit up against the manufacturer regarding their particular anguish. When you have been affected regarding this situation, examine below for updates.
