As the world becomes more and more dependent on technology for its basic functions, computers are fast becoming more than a necessary requirement in every home, office, academic institution and industrial corporation; but as computer use becomes a vital aspect of everyday life, so does the necessary ability to protect it and all the data that is stored within in. Data storage options are becoming increasing popular and important as primarily data is stored in a computer’s memory. This is the most common method and has been so for a long time. However, as more users lost vital information from computer hacking, CPU breakdowns due to viruses or computer crashes, the option of storing data externally was explored and expounded upon. External hard drives are now readily available within the computer market. They are great for backup storage and it is now quite possible to find portable hard drives that are so easy to install as well as uninstall. External hard drives come in different sizes to suit user needs. It can be as little as 1GB but can go as high as 400 or even 800 GB. External hard drives are good for students who carry around a lot of academic data. One need not go back and forth for his or her projects when they have a handy USB hard drive. Even the corporate executive who needs to make a quick presentation need not carry his laptop around when he has USB drive that he can easily plug in at the office conference room. It is now possible to find more and more individuals or institutions going the virtual way to store data. The concept of virtual storage is no longer foreign. There are websites now available for this purpose at various fees, depending on the customer’s needs and the amount of data that the client requires to be kept. Essentially, this is a stress free way to store data, as the worry ends with a single click of the mouse.
