Ofcom’s 08 range of non-geographic numbers is probably best known for the 0800 freephone prefix. However, sales of 0844 numbers have seen marked growth. This article examines why this is the case. 0844 numbers can be great for making an additional unexpected revenue from incoming business phone calls that your company receives. 0844 number callers are charged at a flat rate of 5p per minute from a standard BT landline to call a UK business. For every minute that the call lasts the owner of an 0844 number receives a rebate of 1p. Therefore the more calls a UK company receives the more money they make back in terms of a rebate. The rebate is therefore ideal for generating an additional “bonus revenue” for UK businesses. The 0844 number rebate can soon build making sure firms are actually making money from incoming phone calls rather than being charged for them. 0844 numbers are also the perfect solution for customer services numbers, helpline numbers and automated services. Faxes are delivered to a pc in the form of an mail which saves on paper, power, ink or toner. With an 0844 fax line there are no charges to receive faxes. In fact the rebate on an 0844 number means that businesses have the opportunity to make money every time a fax is received. 0844 numbers are what are known as “non-geographic”. This means they can’t be pinpointed to a specific geographical area as is the case with a normal STD code eg Nottingham 0115 9. An 0844 number therefore allows businesses to give themselves a national presence rather than be restricted to a small local area. This benefits businesses as they can draw enquiries nationally rather than locally. Ofcom’s ranges of 08 numbers offer British businesses many added value features that usually only accompany expensive telecoms systems. These added value features can help to maximise a firm’s potential and squeeze the most form incoming and outgoing calls.
