World’s diesel and petrol reserves are depleting at fast rate; also the smoke emitted by these vehicles causes a lot of concern as they damage the environment. They are a threat to the health of the people as they are capable of causing cancer and other respiratory diseases. Scientists are working on alternative fuel option and vehicle manufacturers are spending billions of dollars on research and development to find alternate fuel option that can be both environmental friendly as well as cheaply priced. Their efforts have achieved only a limited success. One thing that we know for sure is that the future vehicles are likely to run on LPG, CNG, and electric or hybrid fuels. Natural gas is a renewable resource and most of the research is going to be on that direction. We will soon witness cng vehicles flooding our roads and the day is not too far. Renewable Energy The greatest advantage of natural gas is that it is not only environmental friendly but a depleted natural gas reserve is likely to get refilled in another 10 years. Moreover it can be produced from the bio wastes and it will be an answer to the problem of waste management faced by many large cities all over the world. Vehicles running on compressed natural gas are already on the road and they are not a new phenomenon. Much government owned vehicles use natural gas as their fuel. The greatest impediment for quick transition is the non availability of pumps that can supply the fuel. There are only limited numbers of natural gas pumps all over the country. Many manufacturers are not ready to shift to the new fuel. They are skeptical in their approach and some Japanese manufacturers have come with hybrid versions. No Major Changes Required In fact, no major changes are required to use natural gas in conventional gasoline vehicles. The kits can be attached even to a new car and enable them to use natural gas or LPG. Some drivers complain that the vehicle could not gain its maximum power while using these alternative fuels. This rumor can be rectified by going for intense research in this area. As mentioned earlier, the day that this green gas ruling our roads is not far away.
