When one buys an item or puts it to some use he tries to ensure that he is getting the right quantity or putting to use the desired quantity. If it is a piece of cloth that he buys or uses, he measures its length. If the cloth has been made into a shirt, and he buys them in numbers, because they say it is cheaper by the dozen, he counts them. Measuring and counting may be suitable for some times of items, but for most of the others one has to weigh them. For that purpose various types of weighing scales have been designed depending upon the types of items to be weighed or the places where they are to be used. Weighing scales have been in use for a very long time, and throughout this period several improvements have been made in the designs of the scales and are still being made. Different types of items have to be weighed in houses, shops, factories, or elsewhere. If a particularly heavy item has to be weighed it may be cause of some worry. Raising it to the level of the platform of the scale may pose some problems, and it may even be risky. However, one need not get floored by that problem, because there is a floor scale. In such scales the weighing platform of the scale is brought down to the floor level or just a few inches above it. There is a weighing mechanism below the platform of the scale and therefore it is not always possible to have the platform at the floor level as some space is required for the weighing mechanism. Even then raising the item a few inches need not pose any problem. Floor scales are of great help in factories and warehouses where heavy items have to be occasionally weighed. There are different types of floor scales. There are digital floor scales where you can readily read the weight on a display and some additional features are also available in the floor scales which add to their utility.
