In your search for a better moisturizing lotion or cream to keep your skin healthy and hydrated, you probably don't look very closely at the labels on the bottle. It's common in many moisturizers to have short term softening effects to induce instant consumer satisfaction, creating a loyalty to a brand. If you are using a moisturizer and notice your skin looks wonderful right away, but then tends to dry out later, it could be your lotion causing it. Many beauty lotions contain mineral oil or petroleum derivitives. While these products initially have a big impact, making your skin appear soft and supple, they actually damage and dry out your tender skin. Parrafin, methyl and propyl as well as chemical scenting also rob your skin of its natural oils and moisture. Reading the label is extremely important. While many products may indeed contain natural ingredients, such as Vitamin E, if they also contain the damaging products, the long term effects will contradict the moisturizing benefits. Instead of improving your skin, you will instead be drying it out. Even products labelled as organic sometimes contain mineral oils and other naturally drying substances. The good news is, there's a large selection of body lotions and creams on the market. A little studying is all you really need to find the one that will work best. Some key ingredients that will give you the hydration you need include sea kelp, cynergy TK, coQ10 and various natural oils. Avacodo oil, sesame oil, coconut oil and grapeseed oil are all natural oils that encourage hydration and help seal in your body's natural moisture. A smart consumer can easily be fooled by clever marketing and catchy packaging. Your best bet is to do your homework and read the ingredients label before you purchase any lotions. This advice also applies to body washes, scrubs and soaps, which often contain the same type of ingredients. Don't be lulled into buying a quick cosmetic fix when you really need a long term solution. Your body moisturizer should do what it's intended for, and that is, of-course, moisturize!
