First Time Skiers Take Note: Top Tips for Keeping Up on Your First Luxury Ski Chalet Holiday

Travel & Tourism
If you’ve been invited on a work skiing trip but have never skied before, you might be nervous about keeping up with your colleagues on the slopes. You don’t want to miss out on a luxury ski chalet holiday – but you don’t want to make a fool of yourself, either! Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here are our top tips for first time skiers who want to get the most out of their experience.

Don’t Push Yourself Too Hard

Instead of heading straight to the top of the mountain and trying to compete with experienced work mates on the black runs, take some time to get used to the beginner pistes and learn proper technique.

It’s best to build up your confidence during the first few days of your luxury ski chalet trip so you can tackle the harder runs safely later on.

Pair up With Other Beginners

If there are other beginners tagging along, stick together. Not only will it be more fun to team up, but it will be safer too. Pairing up means you’ll always have someone on hand to help if you fall or get a little lost.

Rent Equipment – Don’t Buy

In all the excitement and anticipation, it might be tempting to splash out on fancy equipment to go with your fancy luxury ski chalet holiday. But renting equipment is a much more sensible option for those new to the sport.

Renting gives you a chance to try things out, test which sizes and styles of skis work for you, and make sure that this is an activity that you actually want to return to year after year.

Don’t worry about the quality of rental equipment. The majority of rentals are updated each year, and experts are always on hand if you have questions about performance.

Take Lessons

It’s important to learn the correct technique from an instructor. You can book into classes on the mountain, or even build up some confidence before you leave home by taking lessons at an artificial snow dome.

Having an instructor during your getaway will make a huge difference to your experience. They can guide you through the skills you need and familiarise you with the best routes in the resort. Once again, teaming up with colleagues of a similar level will make things more fun and might work out cheaper too.

Enjoy Your Off the Slope Time

Luxury ski chalets have it all. There will be plenty of comfy space for the whole crew to chill out together in the evenings, and you might even have extra features like a hot tub or sauna. Restaurant-quality catering and a cosy fire come as standard.

Staying in a luxury ski chalet will certainly make your off the slope time very enjoyable, but if you follow all these tips, your skiing time is set to be just as fun. Some final advice: remember to make sure your group leader is using a reputable ski company when booking. That way, they’ll get the best advice on accommodation and deals.
