Movies are a great way to unwind and spend time with your loved ones. With popcorn, snacks, a comfortable couch, and some lounging clothes or pajamas- seeing a good film can be the ultimate luxury in your home. Seeing a great flick in the theaters can be an even more exciting experience as well. With an audience of eager viewers and high definition screens and sound systems, a movie is just what many need after a stressful week. But what should you watch? Here are three underrated action movies that are the answer to “what should we watch tonight?” 1. Aliens This second film, of what would initially become a trilogy, has been called one of James Cameron’s masterpieces. It successfully combined science fiction and action, while also merging some horror film sensibilities as well. Taking the action up a notch from the original of the series Alien, filmed by Ridley Scott, Aliens takes things in a new direction. Fans and critics of the film are still debating whether or not this film stands on its own as a unique and drastically different action film, or if it fits in perfectly within the Alien universe. 2. Terminator 2 Arnold Schwarzenegger returns in this second film of the series playing the protagonist cyborg this time around. His Terminator model, which viewers became familiar with in the original film is know up against a new and improved model called the T-1000. Deadlier, shape shifting, and harder to destroy, the old Terminator must protect the future leader of a resistance that would allow humans to continue living on after an apocalyptic take over created by Skynet- the artificial intelligence that controls all of the machines. 3. Die Hard John McClane is perhaps one of Bruce Willis’ most well-known characters quickly becoming a Christmas cult favorite for his inclusion in the movie Die Hard. When John McClane visits his estranged wife during a Christmas party at the company headquarters high-rise building, a group of terrorists seizes control and threatens to execute hostages if their demands are not met. Being lucky enough to avoid the initial attack, it is up to McClane to take down the terrorists, save the day, and save his wife. With great action, funny storylines, engaging acting, and a nod to holiday cheer- this film has become a Christmas classic that seems to resurface every holiday season. Bonus mentions: 4. The Matrix Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, finds out that everything he thinks about his life is false. He is actually an incubated human being used like a battery. After he is set free by Morpheus, the leader of the resistance, Neo must accept his purpose in helping humans escape from their mental prison or succumb to the temptation that ignorance can be bliss. 5. The Bourne Ultimatum Jason Bourne, a super soldier who is psychologically enhanced, goes rogue and begins a mission to discover the truth about himself and the program that created him.
