Non Destructive Testing is the testing of components, assemblies or constructs without disrupting the day to day functionality of the structure. In other words, Non Destructive Testing is a non-intrusive way of testing and finding out errors that infrastructure might have. As the name suggests, the testing does not harm or manipulate the part that’s being focused on, it is merely tested to find results. Common purposes for Non Destructive Testing come in testing for welding’s, cracks In metal beams and for quality control purposes as well. Non-Destructive Testing works in the auto industry as well to check the limits of a car’s brakes, the life span of ball bearing and other components of a car that might be in use. At infrastructurepc.com, we focus on Non Destructive Testing of transportation infrastructure including bridges, highways, roads, High Mast Light Poles, Dams and Tunnels. IPC develops advanced robotics to inspect bridge decks, cablestay and suspension bridges, bridge columns, Tendons and Wire Ropes. Today we’ll be looking into how we deal with Tendons and Wire Rope Inspections. TendoScan TendoScan is our very own patented post tension tendon inspection service that uses Non Destructive Testing to test cavities, water leaks, bleeding grout as well as corrosion in external tendons and separated structures. We have two variants of the Tendoscan, one 16lb battery operated where we use ECT (Electrical Capacitance Imaging) to scan irregularities that show only with leaking air, water, bleeding grouts. The ECT Tendoscan wraps around clamps around a tendon and can be moved up and down by the use of its handles and wheels. The wireless sensor connected to the ECT Tendoscan sends MRI like information to a manned panel where real time assessments and decisions are made. The other variant of the TendoScan uses magnetic flux to find weathering of metals and to also find where the rusting has ate through the metal. Wire Rope Inspections Infrastructure Preservation Corporation uses robotic wire rope inspection to perform non-intrusive tests on wire ropes, a crucial part of bridges and metallic structures. Wire Ropes can deteriorate due to rusting and can suffer from cross section loss. With our robotic Wire Rope Inspection, the testing is done in a Non Destructive way so you won’t have to cut off a part of the rope of damage the structure. We can assed the state of any sort of wire rope, from bridge suspender cables to mining cables, crane cables and support cables. Deteriorated wire ropes can cause entire structures to collapse which is why it’s important to have them checked. With our technology, the wire can be scanned through to reveal the strands, their state and the effect of corrosion, weathering and loss of metallic area. Like our TendoScan, the damage is assessed in real time and then decisions are made on what the next course of action should be on the spot. This saves the time and man power of coming back to a work site to asses a problem multiple times to finally find out the fault of the wire.
