The seemingly exciting and fast-paced life of an EMT centers happen around the lives of innocent people. Taking into account the huge responsibility pressing down their shoulders, they must possess a wide range of skills including the ability of staying calm and making important decisions under pressure, being a good listener, paying close attention to details, being communicative and compassionate. Those people who want to become EMTs must keep in mind an important fact: no two days will be the same after starting work. Generally, emergency technicians are the first ones who arrive at the scene of an accident and they must take immediate action meaning that even if they see a child suffering, they cannot let the emotional side interfere with their obligations. Drawing a clear line between emotions and professionalism is very difficult. For this reason, not everyone can become an EMT. Obviously, an EMT who recently entered the medical field cannot handle complex assignments from the very beginning. Indeed, he or she has the necessary knowledge and EMT training, but the lack of experience makes a huge difference when facing unexpected situations. Moving on to more advanced medical care is only a matter of time, development and progression. Many people might wonder about the type of training and education requirements for becoming a medical technician. Students who dream about such a job should start paying more attention o science classes because it helps them acquire useful pieces of information regarding the human body, thus building a solid foundation early. When enrolling in an EMT training program, they should expect to face a great information flow that they must memorize in a small time-frame. Apart from science, physical education and psychology also represent two important types of courses extremely useful for a student who wants to become an EMT. Bending, kneeling and twisting are common actions that they will have to perform regularly when dealing with badly injured people. Great physical resilience is necessary when lifting and pushing patients. Once again, in high school students have the opportunity to participate in different types of sports and challenging activities; joining a fitness center also represents an option. There are three types of EMT programs, namely basic, intermediate and paramedic. For an entry-level position the program consists in performing patient assessment procedures like breathing rate, pulse and temperature. Other mandatory procedures refer to using oxygen tanks, monitoring electrocardiographs (EKGs) and stabilizing injured patients. Licensed EMTs benefit from an intermediate program where they learn how to treat pregnant women, children, elders and patients with behavioral issues. Administering medications and intravenous fluids is also part of the program. As for the third and most advanced training, the person wanting to become an EMT must learn complex treatment procedures and care for patients with burns and allergic reactions or suffering from substance abuse.
