Do you remember those summer vacation when you used to wait for the day your dad would drop you at your grandma’s place? Of course, those were the golden days, isn’t it? The excitement of meeting and spending the vacation with all your cousins when your dotting grandparents would spoil you all with their love and adoration, the tasty signature preparation straight out of your grandma’s kitchen that used to make all of you scream, “You are the best granny in the world,” the evenings when you all used to play in the yard and again the aroma of custard used to allure you all again to the kitchen, I am you are already on your trip down memory lane while reading this. Kids, these days can hardly spend such glorious vacations during summer, don’t you think? Their grandparents live in the city and somehow their houses don’t have the charm of the vintage good old grandma’s kitchen, right? So, how about creating that magic in your own home so that you can keep reminiscing whenever you will be sitting to have a meal and your kids will have the idea how it used to be for you? If you are wondering how that can be possible, then you are absolutely at the right place. The vintage kitchen of grandma had one thing in abundance, the warmth of genuine love. Somehow this love used to find expression in the kitchen décor itself. So, if you are thinking of making your kitchen just like how it used to be at your grandma’s place, in look, and in feel, then you must take a look at the following points for inspiration. Contrast of Cabinetry Contrast is not always about white and black. It can be of a warm rich hue and a neutral shade too. And that is one of the most prominent characteristics of a vintage kitchen. The warmth and the welcoming feeling that the contrast brings in the kitchen is undeniable. It sets the right mood for the place where you can have an amazing time, surrounded by all your loved ones, sharing food and conversation, remembering good old moments and creating memories. For such a contrast in your kitchen, paint the place in white or pastel shade. It will offer immense possibilities in terms of striking the right balance with a darker shade of kitchen cabinets. I would prefer a cherry shaker style kitchen cabinet as it will give a complete touch to the warm décor of a cozy vintage kitchen. Deliberately Shabby Throwing in a shabby focal point can be a great option for such a kitchen. For the kitchen island, ditch the new one and get your hands on a shabby antique table that you can use as the island. For the color, follow the color scheme of the cabinets you are getting. If you can find the cabinets in the same shade or relatively close, then it will perfectly match the theme. An old fruit basket on the top of it will be a good idea too. When you will be rushing to get the discount cabinets, think of such a table too. Breakfast Nook To recreate the magical feel, the inclusion of a breakfast nook is important. Find the source of the natural light in your kitchen. Place a small round old table and surround it with three or four similar chairs. Just casually throw in some back towels in the backrest of the chairs and you are sorted. So, now as you know about these ideas, implement them in your design too.
