There is no better way to educate young minds than a special school trip. This year, tak-ing place between February and November, there is one exhibition which I think is an absolute must for teachers looking to broaden their students’ horizons; it is the perfect subject for a 1-night school trip. China’s First Emperor & The Terracotta Warriors The highly-anticipated Terracotta Warriors exhibit at Liverpool World Museum is an un-missable event that covers nearly 1,000 years of Chinese history and the mystery of the vanished empire. The legendary Terracotta Warriors secretly guarded the tomb of Chi-na’s First Emperor for over 2,000 years, but students can now get face to face with these stunning statues and see for themselves one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time. In addition to the army of life-sized terracotta warriors, this brilliant exhibition will house many objects which have never graced UK shores before. This includes artifacts that have been excavated from the Imperial Mausoleum and provide a fascinating insight into the Emperor’s quest for immortality and how he prepared for the afterlife. Students will also gain a valuable insight into the chaos from the Warring States period, the legacy of the Qin and Han dynasties and learn about everyday life in Ancient China. I think that the exhibition will be valuable for primary school students as there are a couple of workshops targeted at this group: Rise of the Warriors This unique workshop is a story-based experience that will whisk students back in time to Ancient China. Here they will look for the secrets to everlasting life and attempt to evade the terracotta army that the First Emperor has ordered to track the children down. The immersive experience involves completing a number of engaging tasks, audio-visual effects and an amazing musical soundscape created specifically for the event. The workshop will educate the students about important historical concepts, reflect on cultural issues and encourage them to use their imagination. As a workshop, it will also help students to develop important life skills that include communication skills, teamwork and self-confidence. The Tiger of Qin This session provides an intriguing look into The First Emperor of China, who was known as The Tiger of Qin for his ruthless approach and disposal of his enemies. The students will split into groups and assume the roles of junior archaeologists. They will take a close look at replica artifacts, including terracotta warrior figurines, warrior armour, identification seals and spade money. The students will learn about why the terracotta army was so powerful, the myths sur-rounding the Emperor’s legendary burial site and the treasures that were buried there. They will also learn about his legacy and innovations that are still prevalent in modern-day China. As with the Rise of the Warriors, this workshop will develop a range of important skills and will be a terrific experience for youngsters.
