Are you ready to make this Thanksgiving a holiday to remember? Don't waste the holiday laying on the couch, take a fun getaway instead. A trip to Arizona or Nevada would be exciting, especially since you can book an air tour of the Grand Canyon from those locations. The tours will sell out fast over Thanksgiving, so you should get your seats booked in advance. Air Tours Departing From Tusayan In Arizona The West Rim is probably the first thing you think of when you picture the Canyon. While a lot of people choose to go to the West Rim, you can tour the South Rim too, and it is a very scenic choice. There are two air tours available when you depart from Arizona. One tour gives you 30 minutes of air time and it goes over to the North Rim and circles back, and the other tour is a 50-minute flight that goes to the North Rim too, but also adds on a flight over to the eastern park border. The longer tour flies over 75 percent of the park grounds, so it is definitely worth it, and it doesn't cost a whole lot more than the shorter tour. Another thing about the South Rim is that it is known for it's scenic beauty, so it is an ideal choice for an air tour. If you want more adventure, you can add a Jeep excursion to your air tour of the South Rim. This allows you to see the Canyon from the air in addition to seeing part of it up close on a ground tour by Jeep. Vegas Air Tours Vegas is an extremely busy tourist destination, and you'll find the biggest selection of Canyon air tours departing from the city. These air tours take off from Vegas and from Boulder City in the suburbs. While all air tours take the same route to the Canyon, you can book a deluxe tour that lifts off from the Vegas Strip, and these come with a quick aerial tour of the resorts and attractions of Vegas as an added bonus. Deluxe tours differ in another way too because they fly on the EcoStar helicopters. This type of helicopter is designed for commercial sightseeing, so you'll have a very comfortable ride in roomy seats, plus the cabin is quieter, and the views are spectacular through the panoramic windshield. The deluxe tour has some nice perks, so it is worth the additional cost, you'll even be treated to shuttle service in a limousine. What makes it nice to tour the West Rim is that helicopters are permitted to fly below the rim there and land on the Canyon floor. You can book an air-only flight too, and if you do, your helicopter will fly over the Hoover Dam en route to the West Rim where it will fly over the main highlights and then circle back to Vegas. The landing tours fly along the same route but when your helicopter gets to the West Rim, it lands on top of the rim or on the Canyon floor so you can experience a ground adventure. A popular choice is the landing tour that goes to the Canyon floor. When you land, you'll find a Champagne picnic waiting for you, and you can also take a boat ride on the smooth waters of the Colorado River. You could land on top of the rim instead, and you might want to since that is where the Skywalk is located. The Skywalk is a steel and glass platform that hangs over the edge of the rim so you can stand 4000 feet above the floor of the Canyon. Standing over the Canyon on a transparent bridge is an exciting experience and the perfect complement to a helicopter flight. You can also take a helicopter tour that lands on the bottom and top of the rim on the same tour so you can enjoy a boat ride and the Skywalk too. Airplane Tours Of The Canyon Both Vegas and Tusayan offer airplane tours too, and these take the same flight route as the helicopters. Sine the airplanes carry 19 people per flight, they are a better option if you have a lot of people in your family or group and you all want to fly together. The airplane tours are more affordable than helicopter tours too, but they do fly at higher altitudes. An airplane tour is a good choice if you need to watch your budget, and they are comfortable to fly on and offer great views through large windows. Buy Your Seats Online All of these air tours are popular so they fill up fast. So be sure to book your tour early so you don't run into any problems. Aim to get your tour booked about two weeks in advance. Just use your credit card and buy your tour online and you'll get the lowest rate and confirmation that your seats are locked in. Get Ready For A Great Thanksgiving Tour The best way to see the Canyon is on an air tour because you can see so much in just a few hours. Plus, there are plenty of ground adventures you can add on too such as the South Rim Jeep tour or the landing tour at the West Rim. So, plan on making this Thanksgiving holiday special. Just remember to book your tour early, and buy it online for the lowest price. Pick the tour you want and start planning your adventurous day at America's natural wonderland.
