The growth and development of bakery items in today’s world are at its peak. Starting from small artisan businesses, specializing in one or two bakery items, to large industrial bakeries that supply food retailers in packaged baked goods with access to its brand recognition, all are becoming popular day by day due to its rich taste. Bakery items are generally preferred by people of all age groups. For nowadays people with hectic lifestyles, spend little or no time on preparing breakfast, therefore it is the bread, buns, cakes, cookies and biscuits that had taken the place rather than other kinds of foodstuff. It is the oldest form of bakery items that have been of utmost importance since the dawn of agriculture. It is prepared from a dough of flour and water, usually by baking. Bread combined with vegetables, butter, fruits and spices together makes the perfect sandwiches. Similarly, cheese, eggs, fresh cream and other products can be used along with bread sandwiches to add to its taste and flavor. Bread includes white and brown bread. Good qualities of whole grain and preservative free bread are a source of carbohydrates and fiber, which provides the body with its preferred type of energy and helps to protect against diseases like cancers and diabetes. Some slices of whole grain breads, also include, vitamin C and D which helps in growth of human cells and develop a resistance against toxic substances like smoke pollution. Then there are the cakes which are the most famous bakery items. They are among the mouth watering baked items that serve the purpose of celebrating joy and happiness. Cakes refer to round, flat and unleavened breads that were cooked on a hot stone. They have a wide range which includes Blackberry cream and cheese coffee cake, chocolate and fruit cake, carrot cake, Battenberg cake, black forest cake, Cassata, cheese and coffee cake, birthday cake, Christmas cake. It is basically a sweet desert which is made of flour, sugar, milk, eggs, butter or oil primarily and with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry added to the flavor. It is often served as a celebratory dish on ceremonial occasions like birthday parties and wedding anniversaries with so much simplification of baking equipments and directions that even the most amateur cook can bake a cake and serve it. Cakes can also be filled with fruit preserves or desert dishes iced with butter cream and decorated with piped borders or some fresh fruits. If a birthday is incomplete without the cakes, then snacks without cookies is not enough. Both the cakes and cookies complement each other and form the basis of breakfast and evening snacks of each day. Pastries are among the other popular baked items which are of flaky or crumbly texture. The feather light pastry is filled with cream. Yeast pastries are light, flaky pastries. They are made of a dough of flour, water, sugar, milk, butter, baking powder and eggs. Common pastry products include pies, tarts, quiches. They are differentiated from bread by having a higher fat content which contributes to its flaky or crumbly texture. Pastries can also refer to pastry dough from which such baked products are being made. Pastry dough is rolled out thinly and used as a base for baked products. There are other types of pastries available like chocolate pastries, orange, pineapple and puff. Macaroons are sweet, French meringue based confection made with egg whites, sugar and almond and sand witched around a layer of butter cream. Eclairs are oblong and hollow pastry made with custard and various chocolate flavored cream. Biscuits are among the other items which are covered with creamy layers and are the source for various types of cookies. They are among the best of snacks that goes well with tea and coffee beverages. Other bakery products include chocolates, pizzas, candies, ice cream and sweet biscuits that are made from honey, flour, sugar and added sweeteners for its taste. With the food industry becoming modernized with new and improved cooking methods, bakery items are considered among the healthiest products since it is baked in an enclosed environment that prevents the heat from passing out. The stored heat helps to release the natural energy and fat from the food. In this way all its aroma remains intact.
