Mirrors have traditionally been reserved for the bathrooms and the bedrooms of America, but recently the trend of decorating with mirrors has begun to catch on. While there have always been those who liked to decorate with mirrors, the idea is gaining steam and now seems as though it is hitting the mainstream as well. Decorating with mirrors carries many benefits with it in terms of how and how well they can be put to great use. This is also helped too thanks to the great varieties of mirrors now out there on the market and sold by retailers. Mirrors that are strategically placed throughout your home can help you in many areas. Here are some ways you can use mirrors in your décor to great effect: • Good mirrors can improve the lighting in the room: Even if a room has poor natural light a mirror can help. Mirrors make any room lighter and brighter by way of attracting and then reflecting light all around it. A couple of well placed mirrors can really brighten up any area of your home. • There is no actual size limit to the kind of mirror you go for: When you think mirrors, think big. The bigger the mirror, the more light you will gain, but if placed properly you will notice another effect as well. Mirrors hung in the right capacity actually have the ability to make the room look bigger. This trick has been used for years in dance studios everywhere. • The Picture is You: Hanging a nice sized and nicely decorated mirror where you would normally hang a piece of art is a great way to break out of the hum-drum. Take your living room for example. Instead of hanging a painting over your mantle, try a nice sized mirror. The decorative frame of the mirror will be pleasing to look at and the art that is contained within the frame is actually going to be you or anyone else who happens to be looking. • You can cover over a damaged wall to good effect: Many times there will be a spot or two on a wall that is blemished up and simply can't be repaired to look normal. Instead of hanging a gaudy piece of artwork over top of that blemish, try a mirror. This will bring in more light, hide the blemish, and allow you to use the mirror as a focal point for the rest of the room. Depending on where the mirror is hung, you can really bring out the effectiveness of it by adjusting the rest of the décor in the room to be captured by the mirror as someone glances at it. • There are unique designs of mirrors: Gone are the days when hanging a mirror meant hanging only a round or square piece of glass. Now there are mirrors in almost any style and shape and you can even have custom designs made in order to bring out the rest of the décor in any room. For example, if you have a nautical theme in one of your rooms, you can buy mirrors that are in the shape of fish, or an anchor, or anything else nautical. This will give you the finishing touches on any style you can imagine. Mirrors no longer belong in the most intimate places in a home. Now you can decorate with mirrors anywhere in your home and when done properly, you will compliment any décor regardless of theme.
