Explore Authentic Catalonia Easily With a Barcelona Airport Transfer

Travel & Tourism
Barcelona Airport offers far more than just access to the Catalonian capital, it is also a great hub from which to explore Spain’s north eastern Mediterranean coast and its beautiful, historic towns. Take a Barcelona airport transfer to any of the vibrant, exciting locations along the coast including the historic town of Sitges, Girona and Blanes.

Sitges

Over the years, Sitges has become best known for its nightlife - but don’t let this put you off, even if what you’re looking for is a slow paced, authentic Spain holiday because Sitges offers that too!

The town is very much a ‘Spanish’ town, not overrun by tourists (many of the tourists you will find are Spanish, visiting from nearby Barcelona). The beautiful buildings date back to the Spanish Renaissance when rich traders returned here, having made their fortune in the colonies and wanting to show off their wealth. A stunning baroque church lies at the centre of the town, and a scattering of palm trees line its streets.

Sitges has a great balance of beach and culture. There are several museums and galleries in the town, and even stunning Roman ruins designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To top it all off, there is a wide sandy beach surrounded by green rolling hills for when you just want to lie back in the sun and relax.

Getting to Sitges

While it may be tricky to reach the pretty coastal town of Sitges by public transport from the airport (the MonBus only running hourly, and then only from Terminal 1, and no direct RENFE train), a Barcelona airport transfer will take you directly from any terminal straight to your destination. Just 16 miles from the airport, it’s a short comfortable trip down the coast in one of our spacious, private vehicles.

Girona

Just over 60 miles north of Barcelona is the medieval town of Girona. Set back from the coast at the point where the rivers Ter, Onyar, Galligants and Güell meet, the town can date its history as an important gathering place to before Roman times.

The town has a strong Jewish history as the capital of cabbalistic theology throughout the Middle Ages. Girona’s Jewish Quarter (the Call), with its narrow medieval streets, is still an impressive, atmospheric place to visit today.

The Gothic cathedral, which lies at the heart of the town, is an impressive sight. But there is more to do in Girona than just sight-see: the town has a young, vibrant spirit with a rich cafe culture and plenty of restaurants and bars to relax in for a spot of people-watching.

Getting to Girona

The most direct, not to mention hassle-free, way to get to Girona from the airport is by pre-booking a Barcelona airport transfer. It is possible to get there by RENFE train, but you’ll need to take a train to Barcelona Sants station and then change. There is also an Alsa bus from the airport, however, depending on the time you travel, it can be very crowded. The bus journey time is anything up to two hours, whereas the average journey time in one of our comfortable airport transfer vehicles is only around 25 minutes.

Blanes

The two and half miles of golden sand beaches and crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean are what draw most people to the pretty coastal town of Blanes. Set at the gateway between Catalonia and the Costa Brava, Blanes has somehow managed to avoid the intense tourism of some of its neighbours and is more popular with Spanish visitors than with those from abroad.

The old town still functions as an authentic Catalonian fishing village, with a vibrant fish auction and fresh fruit and vegetable markets. Restaurants serve local seafood and tapas bars are full of residents relaxing at the end of the day.

Getting to Blanes

There is no direct train to Blanes from the airport, so those wishing to take the train will need to change at Barcelona Sants station. The journey from the airport to Blanes is slightly longer than some of the other local destinations at just over 50 miles, so a Barcelona airport transfer is definitely recommended for an easy, comfortable journey direct to your accommodation. There is a coach service by Sagales but only from Terminal 2, so those flying into Terminal 1 will need to take a shuttle bus to Terminal 2.

Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct, the number one provider of shared and private airport transfers all over Europe and northern Africa. If you’re looking for an affordable Barcelona Airport transfer, Lukas and his colleagues can make sure that you and your luggage get to and from the airport swiftly and safely.
