If you think your chances of being a travel competition winner are near impossible, think again. Diana Coke of Brighton, UK grabbed the attention of media a couple of years ago when it was discovered that she had accumulated more than £250,000 in cash and prizes through contests she’d won over the previous 17 years. In fact, Diana became so successful at winning competitions she was able to kiss her job good-bye in favour of supporting herself solely through her winnings! As a travel competition winner more than 50 times over, Diana has been lucky to have enjoyed many free trips with her husband to some amazing destinations worldwide, including Iceland, Antigua, Paris, Brazil, Spain, New Zealand and Japan. She has also won cash prizes and numerous electronic devices, including iPods, Xboxes, cameras, computers and televisions. One year she even won a VW Beetle! In a Nutshell Diane spends about two hours a day searching for sweepstakes online or in newspapers and enters around 400 contests per week. It may sound like a lot of work, but she has certainly reaped the rewards of her efforts, over and over again. She estimates her winnings at £15,000 annually and, with all the goods she wins, she never has to shop for Christmas presents! The good news is that you do not have to spend as much time as Diane to become a travel competition winner. You may not score as many wins as she does, but it is worth noting the tips she has learned along the way, to help give you an edge towards winning a competition or two of your own. Prizes Diane suggests considering ahead of time the kinds of prizes you would like to win, and making a list, to keep you on track. For example, if your goal is to travel more, realising this in advance will help you hone in on the contests offering trips and keep you from spending time competing for prizes you may not even want to win. It will also help you in your search online as you use more specific search terms to look for companies that would be more likely to offer the rewards you are interested in. Again, if you were looking to be a travel competition winner, you may want to visit the websites of airlines, hotels, resorts and others in the travel industry to find the contests that are focused on travel. Email Accounts Another helpful tip Diane offers is to set up a separate email address to be used solely for competitions. This dedicated account can receive all the emails that will be delivered as a result of entering contests and won’t interfere with your main account. Be Challenged Diane suggests entering competitions that take some effort, as most people will not bother to enter these, giving you a really good chance of winning. She enjoys sweepstakes that draw on her creativity and in which she can include her family as part of the entry process. You can certainly make entering contests fun! Go Local Searching for local competitions, whether it be through regional newspapers, shopping malls or radio stations (check their websites too) is another way Diane is able to increase her winnings. Local sweepstakes will attract less people than a global online contest, making it more worth your while to enter. You need not spend hours a day to be a travel competition winner. Taking some of the free time you do have to enter contests could make all the difference and get you one step closer to travelling to some faraway destination you never dreamed you would one day visit!
