Being morbidly obese is a serious health problem in itself and to make matters worse this condition poses several health risks. You would be considered morbidly obese if you have weigh a hundred pounds over your ideal body weight or have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of forty or more. If you have at least two other serious health problems, are not able to lose weight under any circumstance, and has a BMI of thirty-five or more, then you would also be a candidate for weight loss surgery, or bariatric surgery. As with any other surgeries there are certain risks but with these types of surgeries there are also several health benefits. When a person is morbidly obese they are at an increased risk of joint problems, back pain, and cardiovascular problems. Here are two surgeries that an obesity surgeon can perform. Lap Band® Adjustable Gastric Banding The goal of this type of Bariatric surgery in India is to help restrict the intake of food. During this surgery a gastric band device is placed around the upper section of your stomach, from where the food enters from your esophagus. The band is then connected to a port under your skin in your abdomen. The port is used to add saline, which will tighten the band. This will reduce the size of your stomach. Due to the smaller size of your stomach will give rise to feeling full, which will lower how much food you take in. You will lose weight because only a controlled amount of food can be allowed into your stomach. It is a minimally invasive procedure and leaves your organs intact. There is no malabsorption of food, nutrients, or water. Because there is no re-routing of any of your digestive organs, so there is no intestinal obstruction or bleeding after surgery. The procedure can be revised if required. There are some risks such as the lap band® is considered by your body to be a foreign object so there is a possibility that it can move, affect the organs, or slip. It is also possible to have constant hunger, nausea, and vomiting. Gastric Bypass With this surgery a small portion of your stomach is separated and stapled. The food bypasses the first part of your small intestine and enters the jejunum. This will cause a malabsorption of fat and will prevent you from gaining weight. The main advantage of this surgery is that you will lose more weight. One risk is stretching your stomach by not following the dietary guidelines and minimal risk of infection.
