Spanish explorers came to Florida in the 1600s and one in particular, Juan Ponce de León, is believed to have been the first known European to set foot in the area that he named La Florida, in recognition of the lush landscape and the fact that it was the Easter season. The Spaniards name for Easter was Pascua Florida, or festival of flowers. Of course, de León is most famously known for his pursuit of the legend of the fountain of youth, thought to be in Florida. Today, that lush landscape and the temperate winter climate are what attract many to the state, either to escape winter’s wrath or to pack up and move south permanently. Some, to be sure, may also be pursuing their own fountain of youth. Whatever the reason, Florida’s Gulf Coast and, in particular, the metropolitan area in and around Tampa, is one of the favorite destinations in the state. For those looking to build a new home or simply refurbish an old one, there are plenty of builders and contractors to choose from, especially if you need a construction company in Tampa. No doubt the Gulf Coast breezes and white sand beaches are a primary factor when it comes to choosing a more temperate climate in which to live or just vacation, but those are certainly not the only reasons to choose the Tampa Bay area. Not long ago, Tampa was ranked by Forbes Magazine as the 5th best city for those who enjoy the outdoors, and a Pew Research Center’s survey found Tampa to be the 5th most popular city where people wanted to live. WalletHub recently ranked Tampa as the best place to retire as well as one of the best places to find a job, and Biz2Credit ranked it as one of the best small cities in which to do business. Sure, what draws tourists to the area every winter is the weather, but the variety of things one can do without concern for the weather is also what motivates people to move here. After all, one can’t spend their entire life simply sitting on the beach—as attractive as that may sound—especially when you consider Tampa’s vibrant arts community that includes the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, which is the largest performing arts complex south of the Kennedy Center. Busch Gardens, the Lowry Park Zoo, and the outstanding Florida Aquarium, along with other major attractions, such as the Tampa Museum of Science and Industry, contribute as well to giving residents and visitors alike plenty to do. So if you’re still shivering every winter, maybe it’s time to consider a more pleasant climate where snow isn’t a four-letter word, and build or renovate a home along this beautiful Gulf Coast, where you’ll have no problem finding a construction company in Tampa or nearby that can assist you.
