If you need an energy boost, or just want some comfort food, nothing is better than chocolate. Whether in bar or bonbon form – it can solve almost any problem, at least temporarily. That’s why suppliers of wholesale chocolates are always sure of having customers! But how much is the right amount?

Is Bigger Always Better?

We live in a world where, for many, size matters and the bigger something is, then the better it is. Televisions are getting bigger and bigger; people want bigger homes; the size of the latest mobile phone screen is bigger than last year’s; restaurant portions are getting bigger, and so on.

But it’s also true that, quite often, we can get as much satisfaction from the small pleasures in life. Sometimes the old adage that “you can have too much of a good thing” rings unquestionably true.

The Demand for Bite Size is Growing

In the world of wholesale chocolates there has long been a tradition of small, “bite size” packs. We’ve all seen them on supermarket shelves and our local corner shop – family packs with bite versions of our favourites. These smaller versions have long been popular for parties and special events, as stocking fillers at Christmas, for “trick or treat” at Halloween, as prizes in family games, and more.

In fact, there seems to be an increasing demand for bite-size or fun-size versions of regular bars as well as for new experiences and boutique treats in “mini” versions. Interestingly, at the same time, there is a growing demand for king-sized versions of our favourite sweet treats. However, this is perhaps more easily explained by economic considerations.

So why do so many more people want a smaller bar size? There are many reasons. We already mentioned the use of smaller versions of popular confectionery as prizes or “stocking fillers”. Smaller are also convenient to carry around in your bag or purse, so that when that craving hits you don’t have to frantically search out the nearest confectionery shop.

Yet another advantage of “bite-size portions” is that, for those of us who are trying to cut down on our calories, they can give us the rush that we need but at a lower caloric cost.

In the long run, smaller sizes can also be cheaper. While they may cost more per ounce, because we eat less, you could end up saving significant cash.

Keeping Up with the Latest Trend

Wholesale chocolate suppliers have to be aware of new and developing trends amongst the chocolate-loving public. In the field of “bite-size treats” they are able to supply high street shops with a wide range of what are also known as “fun size” products covering a range of different products and confectionery. They can also provide retailers with attractive and eye-catching display stands so that when you’re looking for something smaller but special, it will be easier to spot amongst all the other treats on sale.
