Over 50 customers of the Walter Boyce Wellbeing Hub in Brentwood have celebrated the re-opening of their centre along with the Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Mark Reed following closure for a major programme of refurbishment. Walter Boyce is a specialist hub for adults with Learning Disability Day Centres run by ECL, the care and wellbeing company and the Mayor was on hand to officially open the new facilities alongside Keir Lynch, ECL’s Chief Executive. The refurbished hub has been specially equipped with sensory rooms and a new kitchen where adults with disabilities can learn to cook. There are also bright, comfortable areas for activities and relaxation. Keir Lynch, Chief Executive of ECL, said: “We are delighted to have welcomed the Mayor of Brentwood to officially open our newly refurbished Walter Boyce Wellbeing Hub. We are very proud of the new facilities we have created which will help our customers to develop skills which will enable them to live as independently as possible.” Meanwhile the Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Mark Reed, added: “It is wonderful to see the improvements that ECL has made to the Walter Boyce Wellbeing Hub. The new facilities will allow the customers to thrive, providing them with modern equipment in a warm and welcoming space. It’s been great to come and see the result of all the hard work that has taken place.” Adults with learning disabilities who are customers at Walter Boyce are coached in business skills by ECL’s qualified trainers. They are supported to develop their confidence and Domiciliary Home Support skills with some having gone on to secure paid employment. The Walter Boyce Wellbeing Hub has 12 members staff and is just one of ECL’s network of 30 Wellbeing Hubs across Essex. The hubs provide a range of personalised activities and individual support for adults of all ages with additional support needs, including learning and physical disabilities, helping them to live and enjoy life as independently as possible.
