Travelling to Málaga, The Capital of the Costa del Sol

Travel & Tourism
Málaga, the largest city on the Costa del Sol, has been attracting tourists for decades. Its fabulous climate, historical highlights, cultural hotspots, and wonderful beaches make it appealing to all kinds of visitors.

Even if you have chosen to stay in one of the nearby resorts, the likelihood is that you will have travelled via Málaga. Here is our guide to the different ways you can get to the capital city of the Costa del Sol.

By Plane

The majority of tourists will arrive by plane, as many budget airlines, such as easyJet and Monarch, fly to Málaga Airport. Flights arrive daily from several destinations in the UK, including Manchester, London and Glasgow, as well as from around Europe.

The best way to get to your final destination once you are on the ground is to have one of our pre-booked taxis waiting for you. You could hire a car, take the Airport Bus or indeed take one of the many public taxis from Málaga airport that you can find outside the arrivals hall in terminal 2, but if you are looking for hassle free convenience, our affordable transfer taxis from Málaga Airport are the ideal option. You pay a fixed price, avoid the queues and can rely on a comfortable journey door-to-door.

Bus

If you have been travelling in the region or indeed in other parts of Spain, you might arrive into Málaga by bus. The main bus station (Estación de Autobuses) is just opposite the train station, which is located on Paseo de los Tilos about a kilometre from the centre of the city. Most of the regional buses, however, come and go from the Muelle Heredia bus station located on Avenida de Manuel Agustin Heredia.

If you arrive by bus, don’t forget that we offer private or shared transfers from the bus station to your final destination in the region too.

Train

The main train station, María Zambrano, is located a kilometre from the city centre and has RENFE trains coming and going from Madrid, Córdoba and Seville. It is likely that, should you have been staying in one of these magnificent cities, you will travel to Málaga by train. Trains are efficient, with many offering a high-speed service.

Our team on the ground at Shuttle Direct offer transfers from the train station. Pre-book, stipulate your requirements and we will meet you upon arrival and get you to your hotel in a timely and efficient manner. We also provide private transfer taxis from Málaga airport to the train station should you be continuing your travel by train.

By Car

Driving to Málaga is an option that some visitors choose to take, as having a car offers flexibility. There are two main routes into and out of Málaga. The first is the A-7 (E-15) motorway that runs along the coast from Gibraltar, all the way to Almeria, and on from there. The second (A-45) runs from Córdoba to Málaga.

By Boat

Arriving to Málaga by boat is also a popular choice for visitors, especially those combining their trip with a visit to North Africa. Transmediterranea run a ferry from Málaga ferry port between Melilla, on the border with Morocco, and Málaga.

The port also has an area known as the Málaga Cruise Port, which has large cruise ships arriving daily.

We offer fast and convenient transfers from the port. You can bank on being met on arrival by a friendly driver who will help with your heavy bags, before whisking you off to your final destination. You can book for your return journey too.

Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct, the number one provider of shared and private airport transfers all over Europe and northern Africa. If you’re looking for affordable taxis from Malaga airport, Lukas and his colleagues can make sure that you and your luggage get to and from the airport swiftly and safely.
