An All-American City and So Much More!

Business

Whether just visiting as a tourist or settling down as a resident, the Phoenix, Arizona, area offers a lot of amenities to either group. Of course, the weather is just one of the bonuses, particularly in the months when much of the rest of the country is digging out of one snowstorm after another. Yes, it can get hot. After all, this is the Sonoran Desert, and the heat in the summer months does hover in the low hundreds, but it is a dry heat after all! Sunny days typically number over 300, so you’ll seldom be rained out of any outdoor activities. Add to this mix the fact that there are many small and mid-sized towns in the Phoenix metropolitan area, which offer wonderful places for those looking to retire here, such as the Goodyear, AZ, retirement community.

The Town of Goodyear

Adjacent to the western edge of the city of Phoenix lies the suburban town of Goodyear, Arizona. Named after the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, which purchased 16,000 acres of land in 1917 to cultivate cotton for their tire treads, Goodyear became a town on November 19, 1946, and subsequently incorporated as a city in 1985. With only 2,747 residents in 1980 and 6,258 in 1990, most of the building and population growth happened after 1995. Given Goodyear’s growth of 245% between the 2000 and 2010 U.S. Census, this city of 75,000, representing just ten percent of the build-out population, is now projected to exceed a population of 100,000 by 2020.  There are 22 communities that are either completed or under construction, in addition to another 21 communities for future development, and all of which will contain nearly 200,000 homes.

A Place of Rapid Growth

Estrella, home to about 10,000 residents, is the largest community in Goodyear and PebbleCreek is one of a handful of retirement communities dedicated strictly to active adult living, with 45 holes of championship golf, fitness centers, and restaurants. Though Phoenix continues to be a fast-growing city, much of the development and growth is headed west to towns like Goodyear, which was the 6th fastest growing city in the country in 2014, with a population of 50,000 or more residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In June of 2008, the city won the All-America City Award, sponsored by the National Civic League. The award, the oldest community recognition program in the nation, recognizes cities whose citizens work together to identify and tackle community-wide challenges while achieving stellar results.

Amenities

As is the case in a number of Arizona cities, Goodyear is home to Major League Baseball’s spring training season, with complexes for both the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians. Once spring training is over, residents in Goodyear can simply drive into Phoenix to catch their hometown Arizona Diamondbacks throughout the regular season. With Interstate 10 running right through the middle of town, commuting to Phoenix is a short drive east and the Los Angeles area a mere 5-hour drive west or a 1-hour flight out of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Considering such a plethora of desert vistas, majestic mountains, and all the master-planned communities with lakes, country clubs, and golf courses, it’s no surprise that the active outdoor lifestyle of Goodyear is so attractive a place in which to live.

However, even with all these activities for the outdoor enthusiasts, there’s so much more to discover in this rapidly growing suburb of Phoenix. So, whether you’re just visiting or looking to settle down and retire, you can find your slice of paradise in the Goodyear, AZ retirement community or any of the numerous communities in this All-America City that awaits you!
