There are many people who ask questions about living wills; you are likely to get different answers from different parties and most of those answers will basically depend on how old you are your general health status and tour family situation. However, at the very least, you should carefully consider the possibility. There are many times when tragic things happen to people who are of optimal health such as those who are in their 30s; this life has always been referred to as the most unpredictable beast and when you go about in unprepared, the unpredictability can easily cause stress, confusion, and mental anguish among the people who are closest to you. Dealing with a tragedy alone is enough trouble without the need to struggle with other questions that would have been best left for you; there are important reasons to consider for people who are thinking about living wills. Prevent unwanted procedures: It should be your personal responsibility as much as possible to decide on what happens to you in terms of serious medical procedures. Think about when you become incapacitated or you are not in a position to make any of these decisions; the responsibility for making those choices and decisions will fall upon healthcare professionals or your close family members. You clearly know that such a decision can be difficult to make on your own; how much more difficult is it going to be for you to expect your loved ones to make such? Living wills put power in your hands so that you can make such decisions in advance when you are still in sound mind. Universal application: Wills have the power of authority over the health care practitioners that you are taken to; the healthcare providers are bound to obey your wishes and that is what the law provides for. However, there are boundaries that ensure that you don’t go to the extreme of requesting for euthanasia for example because your will doesn’t supersede the law. However, it gives a clear direction to healthcare practitioners against performing procedures such as CPR, maintaining your life through artificial means or other important choices that are best made by a patient. These instructions are supposed to be followed whether you are taken to a clinic, hospital or a hospice. It can be changed: It is important to take note that there is a great difference between living wills and last wills and trusts; the latter are a guide to a person’s relatives on how a person’s estate is to be distributed once they are deceased. The term basically carries with it another unintentional meaning that describes the kind of power that you have over the instructions given therein. You are at liberty to make any changes that you believe are proper with the help of your lawyer.
