5 Top Ski Resorts Accessible from Geneva Airport

Travel & Tourism
For winter sports fans, any chance to get to the snow for even a few days' skiing or snowboarding is usually grabbed with both mittened hands! If you're into both quality and quantity, choosing an accessible European ski resort will allow you to jet off for multiple short breaks throughout the season without spending half the time in transit.

With plenty of early morning and late evening flights from the UK, Geneva is the most convenient airport to serve the vast range of ski resorts in the Alps. If you pre-book Geneva airport transfers to get you to your chosen resort, you can be checking in and getting out on the piste within just a few hours of leaving home.

Here are five excellent resorts that can all be easily reached by Geneva Airport transfers.

Chamonix

A favourite amongst dedicated powder hounds, Chamonix is just an hour away on the Geneva airport transfers. Situated in a valley at the base of the imposing Mont Blanc, its popularity is due in part to its extreme diversity, with plenty of skiable slopes suitable for both absolute beginners and absolute adrenaline junkies. The resort has several sprawling ski areas set over the mountain range, and the long season (lifts are open until May) sees hordes of skiers, boarders and mountaineers arriving to pit their skills against the slopes of the Chamonix Aiguilles - including the giant 3,777m Aiguille du Midi. • Superb opportunities for advanced skiers but also great for families • An hour from the airport

Méribel

Set within the lovely Tarentaise Valley and part of the vast Les Trois Vallées ski area, lively Méribel is the classic picture-perfect ski resort, with ski-in, ski-out chalets, great après ski and an authentic Alpine charm. With access to the entire 600km of pistes that comprise the Three Valleys, Méribel's high-altitude skiing ensures reliable conditions throughout the season, with most lifts open until the end of April. In Méribel itself there are 74 pistes (over 150km) and 61 lifts, with a good distribution of black, red, blue and green. There is also a range of easily accessible off-piste runs close to the resort. • Excellent, across the board opportunities for advanced, intermediate and beginner skiers, also great for snowboarders • Geneva airport transfers take around 2.5 hours

Avoriaz

With some of the most picturesque views in the Alps across the Dents Blanches and the Dents du Midi, purpose-built Avoriaz is in the heart of the Portes de Soleil region, which includes 12 resorts across Switzerland and France. As well as offering superb high-altitude skiing in its own varied terrain, the linked 650km pistes of the Portes du Soleil allow you to quite literally go 'cross country', skiing on both French and Swiss Alpine slopes. The resort's altitude guarantees great snow coverage (averaging eight metres in winter) and there's also a fantastic network of cross-country routes, looping through forested areas and across rocky ridges. The town is entirely pedestrianised and linked to nearby Morzine by gondola. • Popular with families, great facilities for children • An hour and 40 minutes transfer time

Les Gets

Also part of the huge Portes du Soleil region, sunny Les Gets is one of the most family-friendly resorts in the Alps, with some excellent ski schools, great beginner slopes and lots of other activities to keep kids occupied. But there's also enough to keep intermediate and expert skiers interested over the diverse terrain, with some challenging reds on Mont Chéry; the thrilling 'Swiss Wall', a black run that will takes you across the border; as well as the fantastic World Cup run from Hautes Fortes. There's also a host of fabulous downhill off-piste runs on the slopes of Chamossière. • Best resort in the Alps for families, but lots for expert skiers as well • Just over an hour's transfer time from the airport

Morzine

Part of Morzine's charm is that it's not just a winter ski resort but also an authentic local village. Because of this it's got an ambience all its own, busy and bustling all year round. Linking to the rest of the Portes du Soleil, the slopes around the resort itself offer ideal terrain on wide, tree-lined slopes for intermediates, and good nursery slopes close to the resort for beginners. Morzine is relatively low altitude (so not as good for early and late season), but advanced skiers can find enough to excite them in the higher altitude Avoriaz, which is easily reachable by gondola. The slopes around the resort are also ideal for beginner snowboarders, who can then progress to Avoriaz or Les Gets with confidence. There's also 95kms of cross-country pistes. • Excellent for beginners and intermediate skiers • An hour and 20 minutes transfer time No matter what your ski or snowboard level, not far from Geneva Airport will be a gem of a resort just waiting to be discovered! Take your pick based on your wishes, level and holiday dates.
