Asava and Arishta, the two pillars of Ayurvedic treatment

Health
Ayurved is the ancient treatment method of India that works on the eradication of the problem, instead of treating external symptoms. It is believed that it is more than 5000 years old therapy which has developed over years. Great brains have added their valuable knowledge to it and refined the knowledge. Ayurvedic products are prepared from natural ingredients, parts of plants and they are safe and long-lasting. There are several types of medicines in Ayurveda like, Vati (Tablets), Rasayana (effective mixtures), Avleh (jams) and Asavas or Arishtas (alcoholic mixtures). Each type of medicine has different properties, usages, and applications. Seasoned Ayurvedic doctors prescribe appropriate medicines depending on the severity and complications.

What are Asavas and Arishtas?

Asavas and Arishtas play a pivotal role in the treatment because they bring instant relief from the ailment. They contain alcohol (self-generated) and absorbed quickly into the body. Ayurvedic books have detailed preparation methods that are referred to make different kinds of Asavas and Arishtas. Nowadays, several pharmacies prepare generalized and patent varieties of these medicines. Though they contain five to ten percent of self-generated alcohol, they do not come under narcotics regulations.

How do they prepare Asavas and Arishtas?

Many people think that Asavas and Arishtas are same, but it is not the case. They are totally different ayurvedic products.

Arishta

First of all, herbs are soaked in the water and boiled. The mixture is filtered and kept aside. Specific quantities of Sugar candy, honey or jaggery are added to it. The proportions are referred from the ancient Ayurvedic books. The mixture is filtered again to remove the impurities. Fermenting agents are added to the mixture (typically Dhataki flowers or Madhuka flower). It is kept in a warm place under the heap of husk in a tightly closed jar. Usually, 15 to 45 days are required to make proper arishta. Sweetening agents get converted into self-generated alcohol due to fermenting agents. Dashmoolarisha, Ashwagandharishta and Draksharishta are some examples.

Asavas

In Asavas, herbs are taken directly instead of soaking and filtering. The remaining process is same as Arishta. Asavas also contain self-generated alcohol and not exceeding 10 to 15 percent. Lohasava, Drakshasava and Vasakasava are some examples.

Several companies make Ayurvedic products referring ancient literature that explains the method in detail. Standard recipes are referred to make good quality medicines. Asavas and Arishtas are combined with Vati (tablet) and Churnas (powdered mix of herbs) to treat ailments.

Now you can buy ayurvedic products online for all types of treatments and health issues. Ayurevdic medicines are proven to be causing no side effects.
