Systematic Approach for a Natural Fly Pest Control To Be Efficient

Environment,Health,Family & Parenting
Flies enjoy the great indoors––it's warm, there's often food on offer and the weather isn't bothersome! "Flies only have two jobs – finding food and mating – and they are very good at both of those things. If they aren't breeding then they will be foraging for food." Basically they are sniffing the air looking for something to eat, and this is something the lesser house fly can do all day without landing.

Their constant buzzing around is annoying, and even worse, they are potentially unhygienic. Well, the feet of house flies pick up bacteria from feces and garbage, where these species usually thrive on. If they don't find their way back outside again, you'll find lots of fly corpses for the upcoming weeks.

So there's a bit of a lesson on flies. But the question is – how do we get rid of them if they are all high on their indestructible summer buzz? Flies do a lot of other things faster when the sun is shining, and that means it can even be hard to get rid of them with normal household fly spray. That result is also combined with the fact that the hotter the temperature gets the slower fly sprays will work – it's called negative temperature correlation

So if not spray, what is the very next best thing to do. Here are some tried and true methods for getting rid of flies in the house.

Think like a fly who likes to breed and eat in warm, damp conditions

Lock-down all rubbish and anything smelly (like dirty washing). If you have a compost bin, put it as far away from the house as possible.

Clean up animal faeces, and just do your best to reduce the attractiveness of your property by keeping kitchen waste to a minimum, benches clear of crumbs and freezing any food scraps until its rubbish collection day.

Get all windy up in the house

There isn't a lot of wind around at the moment, which is lovely for us humans enjoying summer, but also perfect for flies - they don't like getting blown around.

So this is key: Get any fans you have in the house switched on, and watch the annoyance-factor of flies reduce significantly. "Good ventilation helps a lot, they don't like moving air. So get some air circulation through your home and it tends to blast them out of the house," says Craddock.

Fly sprays – which ones work?

There has been a surge in more environmentally-friendly fly sprays over the last five to 10 years, where natural pyrethrum is used instead of the synthetic version. And while Craddock says this is fine, people need to realise the natural variety won't last as long.

"Yes it works, but it doesn't have a particularly strong residue, so it won't last for more than a few hours and at this time of the year, the flies probably won't die."

And what about those fancy automatic dispenser units? "They do work too, but are only reasonably effective. If you have any doors and windows open, the chemicals are blown straight out and the flies probably won't come into contact with it."

Need a permanent solution? Invest in fly-screens.

They a little on the expensive side, and they might not be quite the aesthetic you are after for your home, but it really is the most effective way of being able to enjoy the summer breeze through open doors and windows, and not having to experience uninvited guests.

If all your effort failed, its not the end yet, call out professional pest control who are equipped and have enough knowledge and skills on the job
