There are hundreds of books, articles and blogs out there pointing their knowledge to achievement and success. But after reviewing them it becomes apparent that there seems to be a constant thread between all of them. These traits could be defined as Personality Business Traits or soft skills. So what are these four traits that appear to consistently cause successes when used properly? The first one is communications. Leaders know how to communicate with all levels of management, worker and customer. They have a trait that allows everyone to easily understand what they are saying and they know how to make you feel good when communicating with them. When you speak you sense that they are listening to every word that you are saying, that they understand and care. They have an excitement in their voice and delivery that keeps your interest and brings you into their mindset. The next one is planning. The successful person knows how to put plans together that get things done. They realize that it takes time and there will be a lot of problems along the way but they don’t let them get in the way of progress. They never lose site of their final goal. If they don’t have the knowledge, they get it and then put in the hard work it takes to achieve the corporate goals. The third trait is not giving up. In the business world there are always changes in direction and time frames. It is easy to get frustrated and just give up and go elsewhere. The professional will sit down and plan out another route to become successful. They don’t dwell on major problems that sidelined their project. Once they have figured out a new direction and plan to get there they share it with everyone to get a general consensus that this is what needs to be done. Business has to have a direction and someone driving them to it. Once the staff looses themselves in problems and failures they lose their drive and the organization slowly dies. The fourth trait is having a sense of humor. It was once said that a sense of humor humanizes people. It makes them approachable and increases communications. Nobody wants to work for an emotionless robot no matter how successful they are. Good leaders knows that humor helps reduce stress and takes off the daily pressure that ends up burning people out. So as simple as it may be, these four traits or soft skills appear to be the foundation of the successful business person.
