Ruin The Path, Let Pest Control for Ants a Win Win Situation

Environment,Home Improvement,Family & Parenting
If there's anything you need to know about defeating a bug infestation in your home, it is that most of your efforts will be futile unless you destroy the nest itself. This similarly applies to an ant infestation.

Even if you're constantly killing or warding off the occasional ant trails with insecticides or homemade ant killers and you're thinking "Hurray, I've killed off at least a hundred of these buggers!", the truth is that there will still be tens of thousands of these bugs well and alive in their colony

The first sign of an ant infestation is most likely a single, solitary ant. These are scout ants who seek out food sources for the colony. It is important to not let scout ants live. If they make it back to their colony, they will inform other ants of potential food sources.Different species of ants create colonies in different locations. Some will squeeze through cracks in the floor and live under the concrete slab of your home. Others will build anthills along the walls of your home's foundation, while others will nest in your walls.

Regardless of where the colony nested, locating the ant's home is the first step to getting rid of the colony. As you hunt for the colony, check for cracks under doors leading outside, broken window frames, and other areas where ants can enter.

The question then remains: How do you know where the colony is or whether you can even reach it at all? The answer is that you don't need to.For all you know, there could be multiple colonies that exist in the many areas of your house and they are usually very well hidden in between wall cracks or hard to reach places. To kill off all these ants and their queen, there's only one viable option and it would be by using poisonous ant baits.

How Do I Get Rid of Them?

Once you have located the colony, you want to get rid of it. If you have the time-or simply enjoy doing so-you can squish the ants one by one, but unless you kill the queen, the ants will just keep coming. You'll have better success if you buy an ant repellant and follow the directions for using it or hire a professional pest control company to fumigate.

When you find ants away from the colony, kill them. Make sure that once the ants are gone, you get rid of their trail. Ants leave a scent trail that allows other ants to follow. Bleach, baking soda, and hot water are all effective in wiping away the trail.

If the ants have nested behind your cabinets or in the walls, it may be difficult to bring the fight to them. Ant traps attract their prey with sweets and proteins laced with poison, usually boric acid. The ants then take the poison back to the colony where the effects spread.

These poisonous ant killers work EXTREMELY well because of the way ants behave. Ants will be attracted to these baits via some sort of sugary or sweetening substance that is mixed in with the poison and once they've eaten their fill, they'll start carrying the food back to their colonies to be stored and shared with others. The genius of most ant baits is the fact that the poison is slow acting. This allows the ants sufficient time to transport these poisonous substances back to their colony before they die.

The best part of it all is that a poisonous ant bait has a 2-pronged attack. If a poisoned ant dies in the nest, its body will be eaten by the others, thus spreading the poison even further. Alternatively, even if the poisoned ant dies outside the nest, the workers will still carry the body back to the nest to be consumed. Within anywhere from 2 days (for smaller nests) to 3 weeks (multiple large colonies), all the ants will be subject to the poison one way or another and this includes the queen.

If you suspect your methods aren't working, it may be time to call in a Professional exterminators who can remove unwanted pests from hard-to-reach places and help keep them out.
