Peacock Feathers: Meaning, Importance and Uses

Art and Culture,Crafts,Business
Peafowl, which is popularly known as “Peacock”, belongs to genera Pavo and Afropavo of the Phasianidae family. The bird is found in two Asiatic species (the blue peafowl of India and Sri Lanka and the green peafowl of Burma, Indochina, and Java) and one African species (the Congo peafowl from Congo Basin). The term “peacock” is basically used to denote male bird; while female bird is known as “peahen”.

Indian species have iridescent blue and green plumage, marked with human eye like spots. The plumage consists of tail quills and the highly elongated upper tail coverts. The plumage of Indian peahen has a combination of brown, dull grey and green. The male bird in green peafowl of Burma has green and gold plumage with black wings and shine of blue. The plumage of green peahen is similar to that of green peacock, with only difference of short upper tail coverts. The plumes of Congo peacock are shorter than the plumes of Indian and green species.

Importance

The splendid beauty of peacock quills makes them highly useful and significant for different purposes. They are the symbol of glory, beauty, pride, integrity, spirituality, vision, refinement, holiness, protection, graciousness and expression of true colors. In Christian tradition, peacock quills are associated with immorality, rejuvenation and resurgence. Besides this, they also symbolize an all-seeing church. They are also important in eradicating negative and destructive energies.

Uses

These magnificent quills have multiple uses. The most popular use of these quills is for decorative purpose. They are extensively used to give distinct look to any ambience or place; therefore, used for home, wedding and party decoration. For the purpose of decoration, they are used in the form of flower vases, night lamp, pillows, paintings, and many more. These plumes are superb for themed wedding and party. As a wonderful theme for wedding, they are used to make wedding costume and bouquet, and to decorate the wedding place, table settings and cake. Also, they are used to make centerpieces for pleasing atmosphere. Besides decoration, they are used to make and design

Additionally, peacock quills are used in the form of tattoos. They are made on any viable part of the body like wrist, back neck, arms, legs, etc. For all these useful purposes, these feathers are bought from different stores in bulk. These wholesale peacock feathers are supplied in natural shade as well as in dyed and overdyed shades to add more beautify, glory and flamboyance to any place or item.
