Many times when someone knows they are guilty of a crime they won't even try to contest it or hire an attorney. It may seem easier to just go to court and accept whatever punishment is coming your way. However, even people who are guilty of crimes need to know their rights as well as the repercussions of having criminal activity on their record. These records are permanent and can follow you around for the rest of your life. You won't lose anything by at least consulting with a skilled attorney like Goldberg & Beyer. Here are some reasons to hire a criminal defense attorney if you have been charged with a crime. - You will have some emotional issues to work through. A criminal defense attorney understands how stressful a charge against you is. You will feel better knowing that you have someone who is there to represent you and who keeps your best interest in mind. Additionally, a defense attorney is usually sensitive to the feelings of embarrassment and shame you will most likely feel.
- A defense attorney will keep you informed. If your case goes to trial, there will be a whole lot of information thrown your way. This information can be overwhelming and confusing. An attorney will give you the facts straight. He or she will let you know what the reality of the situation is and what the long-term outlook looks like.
- An attorney will work out the best deal for you. The defense attorney will work with the prosecuting attorney to negotiate a deal or plea bargain. These plea bargains can often reduce your sentence or all together eliminate some of the charges against you. Also, an attorney will work out the best sentencing for your situation. If you are being charged with a drug crime, then perhaps the sentence would be reduced jail time with rehabilitation at a drug facility afterward.
- You will have additional information. A skilled attorney knows the ins and outs of the laws and will be able to guide you through the process. He or she will know whether or not the circumstances surrounding your accusation were followed correctly by police. Also, there are laws that might help you that you would otherwise not have known if you represent yourself.
If you are in an unfortunate circumstance where you are charged with a crime, call a criminal defense attorney like Goldberg & Beyer.
