Ways to Overcome Dried Up Winter Skin

Health,Seniors
Winter is the time of the year specially when a lot of us are likely to get uncomfortably dried-out skin. Also termed "winter itch", it may be not just quite aggravating and not attractive to the eye, but with severe cracks could cause an entryway for germs to attack the body. This can be an even bigger trouble with individuals over 40, as their skin typically will become drier the older they get. There are various preventive measures that can be taken, but as a rule they should start from the inside initially.

Specifically what you eat (and do not eat) will always have a substantial amount of bearing on what causes dry skin. Listed here are a number of things we could supplement our diet which will aid to help remedy winter dry skin situation:

1. Omega-3 fats. It is necessary to deliver the nutrients to the skin to ensure it will stay supple. Omega-3 fats help to regulate the fats within the skin, and this is going to avert lack of moisture of the skin cells. Another reason they support the skin layer would there be anti-inflammatory effects, and foods such as salmon that are full of omega-3s will help soothe agitated skin.

2. Drinking more water. It is obvious that dry winter skin tends to be that way because the outer layer of the skin, or the epidermis, is lacking in water. Surprisingly, experts aren't fully certain that water will thwart dry skin; however, if the body is not properly hydrated it stands to reason that the skin is likewise dehydrated. Drinking additional water may remedy so many of our health problems, and for my part I have found that after I'll get dehydrated during the cold months my skin gets to be irritated and itchy.

3. Fresh vegetables. Carotenoids which give the color to yellow, orange and red vegetables can make sure the skin is in good health. Much like water all fresh vegetables will only offer you good results, so any method to consume them, whether it's fresh in addition to organic or when they are juiced they ought to be added to every diet on a daily basis.

There are a variety of things you should never do to keep the skin moist and healthy:

1. Steer clear of highly processed foods. Food products that are highly processed of the many things that cause a person's skin to become dry are some of the worst. Processed table salt, sugar and Trans fats will play havoc with the skin mainly because they devastate beneficial gut bacteria that keep your system clear of toxic substances. Keeping your blood stream as clean as you are able will enable those essential nutrients to reach the capillary vessels to keep the outside epidermis moist and healthy.

2. Minimize the number of times you wash your hands. Continuously using soap to wash the hands can actually have a drying outcome. Just wash the hands when required using plain soap, and then use a moisturizing lotion. Coconut oil has been seen to be one of the best for hydrating the skin; given it helps exfoliate the outer layer from dead skin cells.

3. Avoid especially hot showers. When taking a shower during the wintertime use warm water and not hot. Very hot water is likely to take moisture from your skin, and when taking a shower having warm water try not to stay for a long time.

There are many foods that are not only delicious but are good for you.  Nuts are known to help certain health conditions plus control weight. Check out this page on ways to use garlic in your cooking, which is another food great for your health.  Jim O'Connell is a writer and avid health advocate now living in Chicago.
