But when it comes to specific issues relating to your hot water tank, washing machine and broken pipes, you can avoid water damage from leaks or a flood as well as mold infestation by keeping an eye out for some common problems. Hot Water Tanks Having trouble getting hot water from your hot water tank could be an easy fix but it may also mean you need a new hot water tank. If you have a gas water heater but are not getting hot water, you may simply need to reignite the pilot light as it could have gone out. If the pilot light will not light or you’ve managed to light it yet you’re still not getting hot water from your faucets, it may be time to call in the professionals. If you’re not getting hot water from your electric water heater, check to see if the breaker has been tripped or if the thermostat is indeed working. If the breaker has not been tripped and the thermostat appears to be working properly, the unit should be inspected by a professional. Running out of hot water is another common problem associated with hot water tanks and it could be a result of several different things. Try to determine which of the issues is causing your washing machine problems. Obviously if you have a leak, you’ll notice water in places where it shouldn’t be. Try to find out where the leak is coming from to determine if the problem has a simple solution such as a new gasket or hose or if the issue will require the help of a professional. The last thing you need is your washer causing a flood in your home. You should check your breaker box to make sure the fuse has not been tripped and make sure it is plugged security into the wall. If everything looks good, call an appliance repair shop. Broken Pipes Frozen water is one of the main reasons your pipes can burst. When the water in the pipes freezes and turns to ice, it expands. If water is able to still flow through the frozen walls of the pipes, the pressure combined with the expanded frozen water can burst the pipes and leave you with a flooded home. Water pressure without the added issue of frozen pipes can alone be the cause of broken pipes as well. A clog in a toilet or kitchen sink or in the water pump itself can cause a pipe to burst wreaking havoc on your home. Preventative maintenance on your home’s pipes and water pump can save you a lot of trouble. If you happen to have a flood as the result of a malfunction, it is important to have the water damage to your cleaned up by a professional in flood cleanup and restoration. If water leakage goes undetected in a home for a period, it could result in mold infestation that certainly needs to the attention of a mold remediation.
