Accuracy in measurement describes the value of closeness of a measurement to its true value. On the other hand, precision means containing both accuracy and consistency thus, it describes the quality of a measurement system’s repetition of the same measure. There are a couple of precision measurement tools used to ensure accuracy. The following are: CALIPERS – these are used for measuring distance between two points. There are different kinds of Calipers. a. Vernier Calipers – dual scale, fitted with a locking nut. According to DIN 862 standard. Available in 150mm, 200mm & 300mm. Heavy duty type up to 2000mm. b. Dial Caliper – shock-proof and easy to read. According to DIN 862 standard. Available in 150mm, 200mm & 300mm. Carbide tipped OD & ID jaw available. c. Electronic Caliper – Dual scale, fitted with a locking nut. According to DIN 862 standard. Available in 150mm, 200mm & 300mm. Heavy duty type up to 2000mm. IP 54 protection available. Carbide tipped OD & ID jaw available. MICROMETERS – this is a caliper for measuring small distances. There is the Vernier micrometer with carbide measuring faces and ratchet friction for repeatability. Another type is the Electronic micrometer MICROTEST 3 POINT MICROMETERS – this high precision measuring system achieves high accuracy INDICATORS – a device that shows the operating conditions of some system PROFILE PROJECTOR – it is an optical instrument used to magnify profile of specimen and shows it on the built-in projection screen. ROUGHNESS TESTERS – investigate surface properties with high speed, accuracy, and sub-nano metric solutions. a. HOMMEL TESTER W5 - The mobile, fast measurement at the workstation b. HOMMEL TESTER W55 - The professional evaluation unit for roughness metrology in the workshop and on the production line. c. HOMMEL TESTER C8000 - Exact measurement of work piece contours with high precision metrology in connection with an efficient evaluation software. d. HOMMEL NANOSCAN - The new standard in combined roughness and contour measurement. Absolute precision in surface measurements with a resolution of 0.6 nm at 24 mm measurement stroke. ROUNDNESS TESTERS – it measures inner diameter, outer diameter, upper surface, lower surface and taper surface (optional). a. HOMMEL TESTER F4004 - With a rotary table with an air bearing, and fully automatic work piece alignment. b. HOMMEL FMS - Spindle type form measuring machines with rotating scanning heads for large heavy prismatic work pieces. c. HOMMEL SHAFTSCAN - Form measuring machine for crankshafts and camshafts with a robust design for use in production. d. HOMMEL ROUNDSCAN - The new standard in combined roughness and roundness measurement. High precision guides of the measuring axes enable exact evaluations of roughness as well as profile and waviness parameters. INCLINOMETERS - An instrument used by surveyors in order to measure an angle of inclination or elevation GAUGES - A measuring instrument for measuring and indicating a quantity such as the thickness of wire or the amount of rain etc.
