There are 3 health epidemics that are sweeping the planet. Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Obesity. If I were to ask you "what is the biggest health epidemic in terms of deaths," what would you say? I've asked this question to lots of people, and almost 100 percent of the time I get the same answer: Diabetes. The fact is, Heart Disease leads the way in terms of deaths each year. You go to your doctor, and they run tests. 2 weeks later, you get the results and your doctor tells you that you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure. They tell you to take it easy and watch your diet. You may come back in a year or 2, and if the results yield another negative result, the doctor puts you on medication. People generally don't "follow the rules." So what usually happens is that they have a heart attack or stroke. It's a silent killer because the daily symptoms are noticeable until it's too late. Diabetes on the other hand is "in your face." It's a condition that impacts not only the individual, but entire families. Even friends are drawn into the fray because they have to monitor diets and activity as well. The entire food industry is impacted in terms of labeling and nutrition guides. Certain menus have been altered to cater to people with diabetes. You don't see this with Heart Disease. What about the medicine? It's not just insulin or pills. It's needles, glucose monitors, test strips, pumps, alcohol pads, etc. Some people have backpacks full of the supplies that have to stay with them. Have you ever went to the drug store? There's an entire "Diabetes Center!" All for people with diabetes. The diagnoses of diabetes is also very "loud." You don't get diagnosed with diabetes by visiting your doctor.
