Majorca - The largest island of the Balearics

Travel & Tourism
The article enlightens you about the largest island of the Balearics, Majorca. It tells you a bit about its gastronomy, staying options and places to see in north Mallorca.

The largest island of the Balearics catches the attention of a rather different crowd to its smaller sisters, Ibiza, which is happening and Menorca, is secluded. Mallorca is somewhere between the two, offering the correct balance for the more sophisticated sort of tourists. Spectacular scenery and romantic Majorca hotels in luxury to stay, the place offer style in the way of its unique towns, for example Palma de Mallorca.

Gastronomy This region has a rich gastronomy tradition based, as you would have thought, on the Mediterranean way of doing things. Soups are extremely popular here; mostly clear soups, which might be from fish, stew or meat stock. Fish as well as seafood based dishes are moreover very important, obviously, provided they are in abundant supply and of great quality along the coast. La caldereta de langosta (a lobster dish) is excellent.

Other classic dishes are rice with lobster & tuna along with mayonnaise. Actually, mayonnaise was most likely invented in Menorca.

Of the islands, just Mallorca makes wine, (Although Menorca manufactures gin, at the same time as Ibiza has an extremely strong herb liqueur that is supposed to be diluted with ice)

Stay If you're in search of a unique place to stay, you will find it all in Majorca. Be it a simple romantic hotel providing the best local food, a small eye-catching hotel positioned in the spectacular countryside, Majorca boutique hotels in the busy city centre or a simple bed and breakfast on top of the ocean. Now……………..Why not match your stay in the North of Mallorca via stopping over at the most well-known places suggested by the people of the North.

Sant Miquel Church The place of worship of Sant Miquel, in ancient Gothic style, was built by the Christian migrants, following the Catalan take-over of 1229.

Campanet Caves The caves of Campanet, were found in 1945 by worker, digging up a well. The caves have an average deepness of 50 m, an area of approximately 3,200 sq.mts, and an open space of 16,000 sq.mts. The touring extent is 400 mts.

SES Fonts Ufanes "Ses Fonts Ufanes" are a remarkable and one of its kind natural phenomenons found in Mallorca. They were acknowledged as a natural monument via el Govern. The hydrological phenomenon crops up in the Gabelli farm, close to the Ermita de Sant Miquel in Campanet. At the closing stages of the year where the oak trees lie in the finca, the water comes out and runs over from under the earth, reaching sometimes a shocking 100,000 liters per second.

Pollença Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa as well as Cala San Vicente are the most eye-catching areas of the north of the island. Among its things to see are the Calvario, the Puente Romano, a 19th century bridge (named for its similarity to the Roman bridges), which crosses the Torrente de Sant Jordi, the public Museum, the Music Festival and many art shows.
