A Blue Zone as an area where the residents often live past one hundred years old. The communities often do things very differently than we do. They're known for their strong communities that not only includes their families but also their neighborhoods and their community overall. As people get older their status improves, unlike in the western world. They act cooperatively and their members maintain a purpose to get them out of bed in the morning - it's connected to other members in their social network. This literally adds many years of living to their populations. They enjoy higher levels of vitality with no sense of 'time urgency'. Can we use these principles in our own often lives? First of all, it is primarily about energy management rather than the buzz term 'time management'. If actions you take regularly enable your energy level to remain high, keep doing them. Anything you do regularly that adds meaning and satisfaction is always worth it, sometime we simply don't remind ourselves of the things we used to love such a long time ago. pick up that old hobby of yours or begin volunteering even part-time. It can add years of healthy living to your life and provide positive energy. Remember, if you're busy parenting children they'll habituate the way they're treated by you. Over time, they'll tend to treat themselves in the same way that you treat yourself. Your children are affected by your actions as well and can benefit from the same longevity benefits that you'll enjoy. Also, your children will notice if you tend to sacrifice everything for them. As they grow, they'll tend to pick up on those same selfless character traits. If they see you taking care of yourself and you demonstrate a loving nature towards your children by pursuing your own interests, they'll notice and hopefully emulate your valuable lead. This is truly a gift to pass on to our next generation. Our rate of aging may not be set in stone. Have you attended a 30 year high school reunion? If so, isn't it incredible how some seem so much older while you recognize other immediately? Some you don't even have a clue who they are until a few minutes into the conversation, that can be quite a shock. This should remind us aging is a side effect of living, but many aging experts agree it is controllable in many ways. Coping mechanisms are considered highly important here, as we cope effectively with our slings and arrows of life, we can better control the rate at which we age. This leads to both looking and feeling better. it's not about trying to look 20 years younger, it's about feeling and being healing at your natural, biological age. What's a great way to slow down our biological aging? Daily movement - exercise. No long distance running, but simply making an effort at some physical activity in your daily life. We can all walk somewhere, like a shop, work, school, even to the corner store or around a few blocks in the neighborhood? Can you take the stairs once in a while? Those who rely so heavily on their cars for all of their transportation need are really killing themselves with the convenience of it. They're avoiding any exercise and often just think that 'when the time is right' I'll change my lazy ways. dancing protects you from Alzheimer's, did you know that? Medically proven fact. The reason is based in the fact that when you are moving that way you are activating many areas of the brain that you normally don't in our constantly repeating patterns of daily living. Use your brain in a way where it has to coordinate many different ways of moving, thinking, responding and you'll give yourself all kinds of age protecting benefits. It's no surprise that Alzheimer's, dementia and senility rates rise while our levels of inactivity also rise. We simply don't move as often as generations before us did. The medical conditions above are virtually none existent in the developing world. Their are other reasons that have to do with diet as well. People in India that cook with tumeric are close to 90% susceptible to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's. This condition really does not commonly exist for them, it's a disease of the Western world and in caused by poor, processed diets and lack of motion.
