Enterprises pay focused attention on hiring practices and decisions. Does an organization ever wonder how to lower the attrition rate within an organization.? Off-course , every organization does but have not managed to counter the concern effectively till date. Helpless organizations ; even big names in the industry have failed to zero in a solution applicable in the case of employee retention. Enterprises hire employees with the intention to have a skilled person carry the job duties and responsibilities and stay with the company for a long term so that both the organizational and employee interests are met.The recurring problem of employees leaving an organization gives an added burden to the organizational cost. When an employee leaves the organization, the human resources are assigned with the responsibility of initiating the process of recruitment to fill in the position once again. Interviews are lied up and different candidates are made to go through the process of recruitment till the time the time of shortlisting the candidate who meets the requirements of the particular job role. So, it's very obvious that re filling of a position due to employee exit is a time consuming and high cost activity. So the question arises as to what might be a probable solution? Employees who are contented with the working conditions, rewards & recognitions and sufficient perks provided by the organization and see scope for further growth would never be willing to leave. It's only when one or all of the conditions are not met, an employee decides to quit. Therefore organizations have to have a proper mechanism in place to reach the root cause of the problem.Exit interview is one such mechanism. Every organization these days conduct an exit interview which is exactly not serving the purpose. The basis of these interviews only involves making the exiting employee fill a form citing the reasons of exit and his/her experience with the company in his/her tenure.after this the form is stacked with the other employee information in a file or as soft copy. No attention is paid to the reasons cited and the importance of those reasons. An effective exit interview is one in which employee articulates the unbiased reasons for exit. To make the interview more effective it is imperative to hire an efficient interviewer who has the skills to bring out the unbiased responses. An employee would also be at ease with preferably a third party interviewer to reveal the real reasons which stimulated the exit. Exit interview as a tool will be effective in gathering responses of several exiting employees to form a trend analysis so that a proper course of action is taken to retain employees save re hire cost.
