Here Albert Waterhouse shares some of his ideas for keeping carbon footprint low while conducting a successful business. - Digitize. One of the most obvious ways to keep a cleaner, more eco-friendly workspace is to go paperless, says Albert Waterhouse. In this day and age, there is almost no excuse. Documents can be easily emailed and viewed on portable devices at any time, and documents requiring signatures can be electronically signed using Adobe Acrobat, Albert Waterhouse points out. Payments can be made electronically, from one bank to another directly, or using one of the many reputable payment services that have sprung up on the Internet.
- Recycle. Going completely paperless may still be a dream, since even if your company is digital, you will be working with companies who still use paper, Albert Waterhouse concedes. In this case, a good recycling program can minimize the waste resulting from a paper-based transaction. But don’t stop at paper, Albert Waterhouse says; be sure your company is recycling its cans and bottles, too. But especially important is to start a program for recycling obsolete or defunct electronic equipment. Electronics are filling landfills at a prodigious rate in this age of rapid advancement in technology, says Albert Waterhouse. An electronics recycling program provides a great alternative that can save the earth faster than you might think.
- Green building. If you are looking at new office space for your expanding business, says Albert Waterhouse, thinking green is the way to go. Many buildings are being constructed using environmentally friendly methods that save gallons of water, using materials that are renewable, and lighting that saves a great amount of energy. Being in a position to build a space that utilizes these technologies will greatly reduce your footprint and make you a pioneer in saving the planet, Albert Waterhouse says.
