Transport is a crucial part of a person’s travel plans for daily local travels and also when they are visiting a particular tourist destination. Despite that the private & public transport is in place, traffic congestion in Gurgaon takes away the breath and badly affects the day to day life, especially of women who are afraid of stucking in traffic jams and reaching home late in remote and even well-connected areas. In this fast moving life where women are working at their best to match their shoulders with men in society, safety issue holds the foremost importance. Indeed we entered into the 21st century but crime against women is still one issue which needs to be addressed through a focused approach. Crimes like dowry death, child marriage, all types of domestic violence, rape, sexual harassment, exploitation at work, molestation etc are rising issues of the society. Discrimination against women begins even before birth. In buses due to the absence of police and CCTV cameras women became the easy target of sexual harassment and abuse. Majority of women face sexual abuse in public vehicles and even places and they cannot even react in the crowded condition as everyone else is either standing or sitting in an uncomfortable position. On top of that if traffic halts due to congestion in the city, it makes them suffer even more and more unless it clears out. Hostilities against women is not limited to only streets or households but it also prevails in office work spaces where they have to work for long hours and sometimes even have to stay back to complete the pending office work or handle the overload, making them more vulnerable to traffic jams in peak and regular hours. From sexual harassment, biased attitude towards the ability of work, abusing gestures, unnecessary to leaning or pressing in crowded vehicles, they have to suffer it all with the sure as hell mental and physical pressure. Even due to poor services of transport, women find it hard to get a means of transport late at night which again puts a question on their safety.
