Water makes up the largest percentage of our planet but it is a resource that many don’t get to enjoy. Its usage cuts across class and it is so basic that life is impossible without it. It is the very backbone of existence. Proper sanitation and clean water go hand in hand. Relief India trust realizes that to make a significant impact on the livelihoods of Indians, the organization must address the issue of water and sanitation. Water provision. In partnership with the government and other nonprofit making organizations, Relief India trust has played a significant part in making clean water available and accessible to millions of children all over India. By providing water storage equipment like pails more people are able to have water for use whenever they require. Not just water is needed in the society but clean water. Relief India trust through its teams of volunteers and social workers has taught people how they can make river water safe for use. By boiling, saving and storing in clean containers, families can have clean drinking water throughout. Hand washing campaigns Hand washing has proven to be the most basic yet effective practice in disease prevention. Relief India trust in their medical awareness camps has taught children and adults the importance of hand washing especially during the three critical times namely; before eating, after visiting the toilets and after changing the babies diapers or napkins. There has been a significant success in fighting diseases like typhoid, cholera and dysentery by adoption of this practice. The trust organization has also ensured more and more schools have hand washing areas, and that they set a time to teach the children how to wash hands properly while reminding them of the importance. Use of toilets Proper disposal of human waste is very important in fighting diseases. The organization has seen more people use the latrines and toilets and thus preventing waterborne diseases. The environment is cleaner and more communities are also learning the importance and new ways of waste management. Clean food and food preparation areas. Handling of food in a hygienic manner and making sure it is prepared in the cleanest of environment has proved to be helpful for combating communicable diseases. Fruits and vegetables are to be cleaned before preparation and consumption. Clean utensils and areas where the meals are eaten should also be clean. These practices have been adopted in schools and homes where Relief India trust has carried out extensive sensitization campaigns. Personal hygiene Charity begins at home and for good hygiene to be practiced, it has to start with the self. More children and their parents and guardians have adopted good personal hygiene practices. This practice automatically is carried beyond the self, to the surroundings and to the people that those practicing it associate with. Taking a bath and wearing clean clothes prevents louse that sucks blood and cause anemia. Cleanliness ensures healthy skin. The Relief India trust has helped a lot in the realization of personal hygiene among children of rural areas by providing soap, disinfectants sanitary pads ,clothing and diapers. Through water hygiene and sanitation programs diseases have been reduced and the mortality rates reduced, thanks to the involvement of Relief India trust.
