Eccotopia has announced that it has obtained long-term phytoremediation data from one of its first test sites. Cape Town, South Africa - Arial Haskins, Director of Operations at sustainable forestation company Eccotopia, Ltd., http://www.eccotopia.com, has announced that the company will soon publish extensive data garnered from one of its initial long-term test sites that provides further empirical evidence of the efficacy of the Megafolia tree product. The data, collected from a grassy field in a predominantly commercial and light industrial area, demonstrates the phytoremediation attributes of the core product. Some 50 Megafolia trees were planted in 2009 at the site situated in close proximity to an industrial estate located in South Africa’s Western Cape Province. Initial assessment indicated that the field had been used for illegal dumping and was exhibiting symptoms of the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The ground water below the site was shallow and locally confined making the site an ideal candidate for phytoremediation. “Mr. Haskins said, “Four years on, we have gathered data from the site and I must say, we are delighted with the performance of the Megafolia trees. Not only have the trees survived but they’ve demonstrated considerable growth. Fifteen of the trees are of particular interest because their roots were actually in close contact with the contaminated groundwater. Tissue samples indicated contaminant uptake was been concentrated within the trunk of the trees rather than the leaves which is ideal.” Eccotopia is awaiting completion of soil sample testing and says it will publish its findings in due course. Julian Moses, Eccotopia’s CEO, said, “This is further proof of the effectiveness of this wonderful tree in restoring ecological balance to areas that have been damaged by neglect and carelessness.” About Eccotopia, Ltd.
